So here is my story and I'm curious if any of you have or are going through the same thing.
I'm 5'6" and was 150 pre-pregnancy. I gained about 30 pounds throughout my pregnancy even though I exercised every single day prior to having DD. DD ended up being a big girl... 9 pounds, 1 ounce. 3 weeks post partum I was 2 POUNDS away from my pre pregnancy weight! I could not believe it! I thought I would get even smaller than I was before I got pregnant... During those three weeks I was letting my lady parts take a rest and because I was losing so much weight I was eating whatever I wanted (not going crazy but also not turning down sweets when offered to me)...
Fast forward to now, (DD is 16 weeks) after 4 weeks PP I got back into a regular workout routine (running at least 4 miles a day with DD in her jogging stroller), watching what I eat, nursing and pumping... and I'm up to 161. I have no idea what is happening. Some people told me that my body is probably storing fat in order to keep producing breastmilk because I was shedding weight so fast. But it's such a hard thing to balance because I can't go on a hardcore diet due to nursing, and I can't workout as hard as I want to because when I do it seriously interferes with my already-low milk supply.
Does anyone else have any of this going on?
Re: I'm Calling BS on the whole "BFing Makes You Lose Weight" Thing
I could have basically written this word for word....
I calling BS also!!
Everytime I workout for a couple of days my supply says peace out!! Now I am trying to run 3 days a week adn rest on the other days so I am not losing my milk supply, but I am gaining weight. I have not been eating horrible, but I have been eating a little more careless because I thoughtm "Ohh breastfeeding will take care of this honeybun!" LOL
That's awesome you're maintaining your pre-preg weight!
I'm with you here. I've heard that your body stores fat to help make breast milk too, but honestly I question the science there. Unless you're super-lean, this shouldn't really be the case.
You would think so since we're burning "an extra 500 calories a day", right? Grr, so frustrating.
Yeah I question the science as well, I definitely was not a stick prior to or after getting pregnant-- which is why I have no idea why this is happening.
I feel your pain. I had this expectation that the weight would just melt away effortlessly. I was down to my pre-preg weight 14 days postpartum and then I stayed there. But I had a lot to lose going into pregnancy. (Three years ago I lost 60lbs and have kept it off, but am still 40 over where I should be.) I hadn't really anticipated how hungry breastfeeding would make me.
This week I have made the decision to start tracking my calories with the goal of 1800 per day. I don't want to do anything to hurt my supply, but I feel like this extra 500 calories a day I should be burning is BS.
BFP#1 10 wk missed mc
BFP#2 DS born at 40+2 on 8/14/12 BFP#3 DD Born at 39+3 on 5/13/14
With DD1, I EBF until she was 3 months old (latch issues, poor milk supply). I gained 46lbs and never lost the last 10lbs even after I stopped bf'ing (stopped at 6 months).
With DD2, I have been EBF (no issues whatsoever, going amazingly). I gained 42lbs and have already lost all the weight I gained plus an extra 5lbs! So DD2 will be 3 months in two days and I am already 5lbs bellow my pre pregnancy weight.
I honestly don't know why it has been so dramatically different but anyways, don't lose hope, after I stopped bf'ing with DD1 I did lose an extra 5lbs (but never lost the last 10lbs) so you may be able to lose it all after you stop bf'ing.
Get out of my head!
It would be nice if it wasn't already fatsville.
i lost my 30 pounds of pregnancy weight (this pregnancy anyway) in the first 6 weeks, and have been working on the same 5 lbs ever since. i'm not working at it very hard right now, i'll walk an hour with LO and the dog on nice days and that's it. Boobs are too big and hurt too much to run right now.
but i have heard plenty of women say that they didn't loose all their weight until they stopped BF'ing. depends on the women i suppose. i'm currently working on the 25 lbs i gained with my 2 MC.

Rainbow Born 8/22, so in love with our little girl!
I was losing weight in the beginning, when I was eating healthier (though eating/drinking CONSTANTLY). I wasn't counting calories, but I wasn't eating/drinking tons of calories. I am 10lbs under my pre-pregnancy weight.
Now that I'm eating a little bit more junk hehe, I'm stuck at the same weight. Not gaining, but not losing.
But yeah, a lot of people DON'T lose. Some (lucky) people do. I'm trying to get back to making healthier choices, and drinking water only, like I was in the beginning. I think that, along with staying active (this is a big thing too...I was constantly walking around to keep her happy in the beginning...I've become a bit of a couch potato lately), is key.
This time I have lost about 32 of the 40 pounds I gained. I can squeeze into most of my regular clothes but I have all this loose skin on my belly that hangs. It's so gross.
This. I"m trying to make healthy choices and get in some exercise, but this is just not the time of my life to obsess over being a certain weight. Once LO is weaned when he's a year old, I'll hit it hard.
Sneaking in from Sept.
This was me after DC#2 & now with DC#3 I'm having the same problems.
I'm scared to workout much since my supply will dip to near zero. It's BEYOND frustrating.
I kicked tail getting 85 pounds off after DD and I have 50 to lose this time. I love BF'ing but good gracious, I want my body back, especially after 3 kids, I'm feeling like a run-down old hag.
Even if your body isn't where you want it to be, good gracious, it is worth it cuz you have some good looking kids!
