Not sure if anyone has read my previous post yesterday, but I will find out this Friday if I am pregnant, or if I had a very early MC. ( I took 3 hpts- all positive, but my bloodwork came back "negative" @ 21) Confusing stuff, this! Boo.
This is my first time possibly being pregnant... my question is, do I tell my parents if I learn that it was indeed an early MC? I don't want to make them sad....
I'm still naively hopeful that the nurse was wrong, and that I AM preggers, though I'm going crazy with worry.
Thanks!
Re: possible preg/possible mc-do I tell mom and dad?
I'm sorry you are going through this. Just because I'm curious and have seen it happen before: Did you take blue dye or pink dye when you got your HPT positives? Blue dye are notorious for false positives. If you took blue dye, maybe try a pink dye?
Also, it could have been really early when you got your doctor's test. Maybe try a pink dye and if that's positive ask them to draw another at the doctors?
Either way I would tell my parents. You might need the support if you are suffering a CP. I really really hope you are not and that you are just really early. You know your parents better than we do. If you feel that they would give you what you need in terms of support, then tell them. You could also use some IRL support as you wait to figure this out. It must be so scary to do this alone. Good luck.

My parents knew I was pregnant. As soon as I found out I was having a m/c I told them. It was really great to have their support because I needed it.
I really hope everything turns out ok for you. I'm assuming they repeated your bloodwork and they are waiting for your levels? My HCG at 9DPO was only 11.6. I went back 5 days later and everything was rising as it should. Hope it will be the same for you. Keep us updated.
I really hope it was just really early for you at the doctor's and that the doctor's test wasn't as sensitive. Are you still able to get positives at home?
Fingers crossed that everything works out for you.

I'm sorry you are going through this. It really depends on your relationship with your parents. Having said that-- when are you repeating b/w? Labs get blood work wrong and it happens more often than you think. (Happened to me not related to this issue, but still)
My Blog
So, I just called the office, and spoke to a different nurse. She said, and I quote- "if you missed your period and your number is 21, you are probably miscarrying." She said if my numbers aren't in the "thousands" on Thursday, that I'm not pregnant.
I was supposed to have my period Monday.
Were you temping? Using OPK's? This may have been in your original post, but how did you know when you ovulated? She's an idiot for saying if the numbers aren't in the "thousands" on Thursday that you are not pregnant. I'm sorry you are dealing with this.
No OPK's or temping.. this is my first time around- I think next cycle I will need to start doing those things! I was just tracking my periods and using ovulation predictors, so it might not be 100 percent accurate! BUT I am NEVER late. My cycle is 25 days every.single.time. So when I missed it on Monday, I just had a feeling.2 Pink HPTS positive monday and a positive digital on Tuesday. It's just so frustrating! "If you missed your period already your number should be in the thousands" Ok. Trying is hard. Remember when you were 16 and your parents scared you into thinking that if you have sex ONCE you'd be pregnant? Who knew it was so hard.
I too believe you are pregnant and believe that blood work Friday will show rising levels. The nurses there don't seem too smart. I've never had blood work for hCG so I have nothing to compare to, but this chart gets posted often and there is a HUGE variations in the numbers and these are all numbers from viable pregnancies.
Guideline to hCG levels during pregnancy:
hCG levels in weeks from LMP (gestational age)* :
* These numbers are just a GUIDELINE-- every woman?s level of hCG can rise differently. It is not necessarily the level that matters but rather the change in the level.
What?? I'm sorry, but it sounds to me like these nurses are morons who don't understand hcg numbers. I really hope this turns out to be a healthy pregnancy for you, and either way I think I would find a new OB.
Mother to DD, born sleeping on 9/28/11, and DS, born 3/12/13, 5lbs 13oz, 19in
Thats not even a little bit true. Find a new provider. At 13DPO, which is the day before I was set to get my period, my beta was 42. At 16DPO(4w2d), my number was 248. At 20 DPO (4w6d), my number was 1665. I was over 5 weeks before my number was multi-thousands. DS will be 7 in April. Betas are subjective. Your period hasnt passed yet, which makes 21 a really good first beta.
You can't diagnose a miscarriage based on that first number with no other symptoms of miscarriage. If you were bleeding, I might agree with the nurse. I've had 4 miscarriages. Nothing about this screams miscarriage to me. Bottom line, you need to find a competent provider. If this doctor is letting his staff pass out false information like that, then he is not worth much. In my eyes, if you continue to let this incompetent practice continue your care, then you are just as dumb.
PPs have said this, but that nurse is wrong. You just had the first blood draw Monday evening, correct? And you're having the blood drawn again this evening? If this pregnancy is going okay you would want to see numbers above 45 or so. (If you're having it drawn tomorrow, you'd probably want a little higher, but only probably around 50-60 -- anything higher is fine too!). I don't think she knows what on earth she's talking about. How would you have gone from 21 to "thousands" in three days?? That is NOT how it works.
I highly, HIGHLY recommend you go to an actual OB office with an actual OB and nurses that are actually trained in this. These nurses have no idea what they're talking about.
