How's it going with V and the attorney? Any updates? FX everything is going well! Also, did you decide on the gift situation?

Just thought I'd add a cute puppy...

Re: ~liz4paws~

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pup!

You're always so sweet to be thinking of me. Heres the scoop with us:

I talked to the donor "V" on the phone earlier this week and it sounds like she and her husband are signing the clinic paperwork this Saturday in front of a notary stating the embryos will belong to us from a clinic standpoint. This is SO huge! In addition to the clinic's paperwork, our attorney just finished up our draft of our donor embryo contract that will cover all other aspects of ownership in the eyes of the law. Once we see the clinic's paperwork showing ownership with no limitations on the donor's part (which they their clinic has already stated they have verbally) our attorney is going to send over our contract to the donor's for execution. They will finally belong to us! I can't believe it!

The complicated, annoying, and hopefully minor bad news: I guess the original genetic father had spent time in Europe in the 80s and due to some stupid FDA law, it's causing a delay in the red tape. Can I just say how stupid some of these FDA laws are? I guess the FDA has a requirement for both the recipient AND the recipient's clinic to sign an agreement that they are taking on the added "liability." I have done quite a bit of research, and there is no evidence that communicable diseases are spread via DEmbryo. And besides, this embryo batch has already started two families with no issues whatsoever. They were screened at the time of creation! So at the momnt, my RE and my embryologist are reviewing the information regarding this hiccup and will be making the final call as to if they are willing to do the FET at my clinic or not. If they decide they don't want to, I'll be annoyed and shocked. But our backup will be to fly to Virginia to do the FET which is where the embryos are now.

Also on my list of dumb FDA rules - my husband has to get infectious disease screening done even though he has absolutely no physical participation in this process. He's complaining and whining about it, which I do understand. But for cryin' out loud - imagine how much poking and pain I've been through to get to this point? Not to mention, hopefully a pregnancy (God willing.) The guy can go get a stinkin' blood draw and quit complaining lol. But the FDA rule itself really does make no sense!

Hopefully our clinic will hurry up and make their decision soon so we know which path we will be taking.

How are you doing? I hope you had a good Thanksgiving. IF can make the holidays so hard, but I hope you're finding some joy somewhere. :)

ETA: I haven't quite figured out what to get V and family for Christmas. But I think I'll get a family gift, and something special just for V. I guess I have a bit of time to decide but I definitely will be getting something!

  • I'm so glad V is following through! What an amazing blessing!!

Oh, no I'm sorry to hear about the FDA issues. Does it have to do with Mad Cow? A coworker of mine cannot donate blood since she lived in England during the 80s Mad Cow outbreak. I wonder if it's the same law that applies to all donations. I hope your clinic gets it sorted out soon and you don't have to travel for the FET!

Aw, tell DH to put on his big boy undies and get over it! lol If he had to do an infectious disease panel before your IVF surely they could use those results? MH had to have the panel done before our IVF. That is really stupid that it's required though.

I'm good! I'm trying not to think too far ahead as far as IF goes. My plan is still to take BCP until the end of the year and then go from there.

  • Yes, it is because of the Mad Cow thing and I think its a big umbrella FDA rule that covers all tissue donation.  I'm really really not worried about it at all after what I've read about DEmbryos, but FDA is making it more of a red tape pain in my rear. I wish my clinic would call me back with their decision already! Waiting stinks.

DH both had an infectious disease panel done before our IUI last year, but that was in December 2011 so it's about to expire. Since we are doing our FET (if all goes as planned) in Jan or Feb, we need to get another one done. Makes no sense at all that DH needs to be involved with blood draws, but insurance covers it so we will just go with the flow.

I hope you're hanging in there, and good things are coming your way. It's always fun talking to you, DP. Making any trips to Austin anytime soon?

  • It does sound like a pain! Especially since, like you said, they were screened at creation.

Oh, that sucks that it's going to expire! I'm glad insurance covers it though. Tell YH it's just the FDA's way of making him feel more involved. Wink MH would just be glad he wasn't having to give the other kind of sample...

I have my ups and downs (don't we all!), but I've been in a good place lately. Let's hope it stays that way for awhile. lol Nope, no Austin trips planned unless DH decides to take a "scenic route" to Houston for Christmas again. I don't think he will since the last and only time he did that I was so mad by the time we arrived! A 3 hour drive took over 6 hours!!
