Stroller & Car Seat HELP

I am due with #2 in three weeks and DS is 21 months old.  We have the Britax, Moby, and Ergo baby carriers and also bought the City Mini Double Stroller.  I like the City Mini because I can fully recline the seat and lay LO#2 down.

I THOUGHT I was set, but then came across a dilemma:

I don't  have any options for just snapping the car seat (Chicco Keyfit) into a stroller if I don't want to move/wake baby (I sold my single Chicco stroller a while back).  I've read the City Mini car seat adapters are a waste of $ and don't work well.

What did you all do?  I really don't want to buy ANOTHER stroller (also have a Bob Revolution Single stroller), but don't know what my options are (or is just baby carrier or lying baby down in City Mini sufficient).  If I should get another stroller, what stroller/sit-stand/etc to get?

TIA!!!!

Re: Stroller & Car Seat HELP

  • Honestly I think you're probably over thinking this a little. I would get the adapter since you're only going to need it for a few months (3-4) instead of wasting the money on a second stroller. Plus unless you plan on walking a lot in the snow it won't get used much until LO is able to be in just the stroller. FWIW with DD1 (born Mid-December) we didn't use a stroller except at the mall and even then we just put her straight into the stroller since walking put her back to sleep until March or April when Iowa weather started acting a little nicer.

I'd either get a snap and go (~$40) or I'd get the adaptor for your city mini. They aren't that bad. to be honest and there will certainly be times you'll find it helpful.

Ditto this - we had a bumbleride indie twin, but really only used that outside without the car seat.  When I went into a store, I either wore DD with DS in a cart or if we were just running into Starbucks or something, I would put DD in the snap and go stroller and have DS help me push.  If you think you will want to snap #2 in at times, I would either get a snap and go or just get the adaptor.

  • We have the City Mini double, had a Chicco KeyFit and an Ergo. We did not buy another stroller and we didn't buy the adaptor. I either put DS in the travel system single stroller and wore DD or I just took DS out of the car seat and laid him in the stroller. Mostly I just ended up wearing him since he had severe reflux issues.

I personally didn't need another stroller to have the car sear snap into. I suggest waiting and seeing how the logistics work out when your #2 gets here. You may just find that you can make it work.

  • Thanks ladies.  Your perspectives are helpful.  With DS, I was ALWAYS snapping the car seat into the stroller, hence my assuming I'd want the same convenience for DD (both winter babies).  However, I'll just try it out with the Ergo/Bjorn/Moby carriers and the City Mini double with the seat all the way down (and a snuggler) and hope that works well enough.  If not, maybe I'll break down and get a snap 'n go.

    Thanks again!

  • FWIW - We have never used a double stroller (my sister gave me hers, a great one, but we never needed it). I have not taken the car seat + sleeping baby out and snapped it into the stroller frame much either, because she generally wakes up by the time I have her older brother under control and can get her out, etc.

Until very recently, I have mostly carried DD in the carrier and put DS in the stroller, or put DD in the stroller and walked with DS. Has always worked well for us.

  • I have the Chicco car seat and we also have only 1 stroller right now - the Uppababy Vista.  We have been meaning to get a lightweight stroller and just haven't gotten around to it and I recently found out that Chicco is coming out with a lightweight stroller that you can also snap the car seat into.  It's called the Liteway Plus.

Anyways, what I plan to do is get the Liteway Plus and also get a double stroller.  I figure that the Liteway will be good so I can click the car seat in if my daughter wants to walk or I can wear the newborn if I need my daughter in the stroller seat.  I think for our situation we will still need a double stroller but I am pleased with this as an option when I am out with 1 kid or running quick errands with both.  We also fly quite a bit and this is a good option for us for travel.  Just another thought for you!
