DS's nursery doesn't seem warm enough for him and our heating system isn't great about heating the third floor so I think I need to supplement the heat in his room. I'm sure heaters aren't recommended right? but what do I do?
Any recommendations? DS is still in a crib and not mobile and once he is crawling we will have to figure something else out.
ETA I dress him in a onesie, footie pj's and a sleep sack ... sometimes a cotton one sometimes microfleece ... does he need more? I suddenly feel so clueless but the other day he overheated while visiting family and now I'm scared to do that too!
Re: heater for nursery?
I'd be using electric as well. Any brands that are better than others? I've never had to buy one before!
An electric space heater should be fine. Anymore they all have sensors that shut them off and sound an alarm if they are knocked over or even bumped.
I felt comfortable having one in our living room when DS was mobile--he was always supervised and since it blew the air out it never got hot to the touch.
We don't have a nursery yet (currently TTC), however we use space heaters in our house b/c we have a very old gas furnace and it would cost a fortune to run it all the time.
We have this model:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sunbeam-Quartz-Tower-with-Sun-Like-Radiant-Heat/15126052
It works well for our need and would definitely heat up a nursery. The nice thing is that you can set it to low or high and also utilize the thermostat function so that it turns on/off as needed based on the temperature in the room.
The front does get hot, so once baby is mobile, I wouldn't utilize it if baby would be able to touch it. You could probably put it on top of a dresser or something and that would be ok.
We did a ton of research on this because our nursery is the coldest room in the house. So far, we decided to just raise the heat (though it's too hot for my liking). But we found this one had the best reviews: https://www.amazon.com/DeLonghi-HMP1500-Mica-Panel-Heater/dp/B005MMN75G/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pdT1_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=5SHQ8NKW15C&coliid=I1YJWZRH3I6C5U
Sorry, can't make it clicky (or shorter) on my Mac in Chrome. Bump hates me!
~after 34 cycles we finally got our 2nd little bundle of joy~

My IF blog
I have an electric one in my room that we got from walmart for $60. You can set it to what temperature you want, like our is set to 70 so when it gets to 70 it cuts off and when it drops to 68 it cuts on. It also has a feature if it gets knocked over it automatically goes and stays off, which is great since we have pets and I just leave it on all the time, even when were not home.
