Share Your 3 Month Schedule!

Sweet Baby Jesus...

What happened to my very content, predictable babies!? I have been switched up with 2 certifiable pairs of fussy britches!

The twins will be 3 months old tomorrow and since they turned 12 weeks old last Monday, all bets are off in the eating, playing and sleeping departments. They're certainly not sleeping through the night anymore and they decided to move their bedtime up to around 7pm.

Problem is, they wake up, both of them, at 2am like clockwork. However, they do eat and go right back to sleep. I'm wondering if I'm feeding them enough during the day, 46 oz every 3hrs? Their naps are all over the place. The eat, play, sleep cycle aint cutting it anymore. Its like kinda eat, play, fuss, fuss, catnap for 15 mins, eat a little again.

You get the idea.

No one is happy, especially my DS James, who is my nighttime, naptime, repeat offender of waking! My DD Rosie, just lays there, looks over at him, offers her hand for him to chew on, while looking up smiling at me. Poor babies.

So, share your thoughts, suggestions and concerns. I'm all out of ideas today. DS up crying again as I'm finishing this post. Say a prayer for us. DH still out of town working Monday thru Friday.

TIA

Re: Share Your 3 Month Schedule!

  • My girls aren't 3 months yet but up until this past weekend we were going through the same exact thing. My solution to the anytime napping so far for the most part has been to swaddle them if they are really fighting it. Also lots of patience. Sometimes it just takes a long time for me to get both of them down. They might sleep for 10 minutes or 2 hours.

They haven't ever slept through the night but both wake around 3 like clockwork. I feed them and they go right back down. I know I feed them plenty during the day so I don't worry about it. I figure they will give up the feedings when they are ready. The past few nights A has also been getting up around 12 so I'm thinking maybe a growth spurt thrown in there for her.

I don't have too much advice, it's hard and I just keep trying things that I think might help.

Do you try to keep them on the same schedule? Unlike many I found that trying to do that didn't help me very much because then they weren't eating/sleeping when they were ready. I found by following their cues they tended to keep a close schedule and also were each much happier because they were getting food/sleep when they needed or wanted and not just because the other was.

  • Yup I'm in the same boat (hey icedcoffee!) :)

I am trying my darndest to stick to a 3 hour EASY (eat, awake/play, sleep, you time) schedule.  The 'you time' makes me laugh though because right now it does NOT exist :)   I feed them when they wake up in the morning (7ish) and keep them up for no more than 60 minutes (including feeding time) before laying them back down.  I put them in their dark room, swaddled, with white noise, and rock their rock n plays until they are calm/asleep. Like iced, sometimes its 10 min sometimes hours (LOVE those days!)

When they wake up early I will spend about 20-30 minutes trying to rock them, get them back to sleep and if that doesn't work I turn on the lights, put them in their bouncy seats and clean their room, fold laundry, etc. until its time to eat again.  They do get fussy but oh well, they are SUPPOSED to be sleeping! Sheesh! Kids! My big problem is that by that 3 hour eating mark again they are usually so sleepy they don't eat well which stinks so that's what I'm trying to figure out right now.  Another mom in my mom's group said her boy got much better schedule-wise by about 4 months things really evened out nap-wise.  I'm crossing my fingers, legs, toes that it happens for us too! :)  Good luck!

  • Thank you! I feel like I'm not alone in this bag of craziness!

Things leveled out after we got home from Thanksgiving vacation. They dropped two feedings during 24 hours (went from 7 a day to 5 a day). When they do sleep, they sleep in longer stretches but, not always at the same time. Ugh.

It seems as if they were trying to roll over, grab at things and they were needing extra sleep, attention and feeing while they were reaching those milestones. Wonder week my foot, means "I wonder what is up with my babies this week!"

Thanks for sharing your suggestions and support. Now I just wish they could just stay little :/

  • yayyy for less feedings!  My new parents group leader always says 'once you feel like you have things figured out, it will change' - that's for sure!  My big problem is just second guessing everything I do.  You will get through it mama!  We all will!  And yes, wonder weeks? (more like wonder when the hell this is going to be over?) lol
