GRADUATES ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO POST!

FACEBOOK GROUP: Yellow_Daisy has restarted a PRIVATE Facebook group (meaning no one can see it in your feed, that you are a member, etc.) for the ladies from IF and SAIF who are using/have used donor eggs/embryos or donor sperm.  If you would like to join, please page Yellow_Daisy and ask for an invite to the group.  This might be a nice way to keep in touch in a more private setting and address issues that may arise down the road.

Re: ~*~DE/DEmbryo/GC Check-in~*~

  • Hi Ladies,

DH's sperm DNA frag test was normal.  I had a saline sono yesterday and have another polyp that needs to come out. I'm waiting for a call from the surgery scheduler this afternoon.  I just removed some in April of this year. I'm just too tired of there always being a problem and being on the bad side of every single stat.  We have a new donor for our final DE cycle and my guestimate of an ER date is mid-January. I know I sound whiny and negative but I have no expectations of it working and am just doing it for closure. We will be CFNBC after this last cycle. I'm just done.

I don't know anything about DEmbryos. Sorry:-(

Hugs to Happywife- she got bad news about the donor she wanted to use.

Chicagobride-  I'm so glad you saw a HB. I hope your worry starts to lessen.

Hoping Ceemonkey is close to ET?  GL my dear!

Glueck-- hope your donor is stimming well and you get some info on her progress later this week :-)

Status Update: Where are you currently with the DE/DEmbryo/ GC process?

We have had a really rough 24 hours or so.  About a week ago we sent off money to secure our donor-decided to use a donor that had been tested/screened by our clinic.  We talked to the donor lady yesterday.  They don't provided specifics about how many eggs were retrieved and such.  We learned that even though our donor was finishing up her second cycle, the first cycle resulted in a BFN and the second was for the frozen egg bank.  The clinic is removing her from the donor registry until one of her eggs result in a BFP.  We had to cancel our check-because once they cash it the $$$ is with their "agency" and they only have about 15 donors to pick from.  I was so ridiculously angry yesterday.  We are now back looking at local agency donors.  Picked a new proven donor last night, now agency lets me that her required compensation is $10,000-I'm sorry, but to me that seems like robbing desperate people.  We are considering quitting all TTC efforts-we are tired of looking at profiles, tired of everything being such a business and beginning to wonder if we want to continue on this journey.  We are tired, angry and frustrated beyond words that I can use to describe.  We are even wondering if we should stick with the HMO and all the $$ we put in the FSA for 2013, we have to make a definitive decision about this by 12-10 when open season ends.  I didn't figure DE would be as hard as it's been, and we haven't even gotten to the cycle part yet!!

QOTW: What resources do you know of for DEmbryo? What kinds of waiting lists do various programs have that you know of?

We have not considered donor embryos and haven't researched this option.

TTC since 10/09 Me-43 DH-44 RE and testing 10/10-11/10, Recommending IVF 1/11 New RE AMA and DOR-DH low motility IVF #1.1 cancelled 3/11 due to poor response IVF #1.2 May 2011, one perfect 8-cell embryo, 3dt-BFN, IVF #2.1 Converted to IUI d/t poor response. • Mrs McIrish - sorry to hear about the polyp. I hope it?s an easy removal and things move forward smoothly with your new donor.

HappyWife: I am so sorry that you have been through the ringer. Big hugs to you!

    Our update:

The good news: It sounds like our donors are signing the clinic paperwork this Saturday in front of a notary signing over the embryos to belong to us from a clinic standpoint. This is huge! In addition, our attorney just finished up our draft of our donor embryo contract. Once we see the clinic's paperwork, he is going to send it to the donor's for execution. They will finally belong to us!

The complicated and annoying bad news: I guess the original genetic father had spent time in Europe in the 80s and due to some stupid FDA law, it's causing a delay in red tape. Can I just say how stupid some of these FDA laws  are? I guess the FDA has a requirement for both the recipient AND the recipient's clinic to sign an agreement that they are taking on the added "liability." I have done quite a bit of research, and there is no evidence that communicable diseases are spread via DEmbryo, and besides, they have started two families with no issues anyway - they were screened at the time of creation. Right now, my RE and Embryologist are reviewing the information regarding the rule and making the final call as to if they are willing to do the FET there or not. If they decide they don't want to, I'll be annoyed and shocked. But our backup plan is to fly to Virginia to do the FET. Also on my list of dumb FDA rules - my husband has to get infectious disease screening done even though he has absolutely no physical participation in this process. Thanks FDA, you make no sense!

Hopefully our clinic will hurry up and make their decision soon so we know which path we will be taking.

Had our WTF appointment yesterday.  On one hand, I really like my clinic, the donor egg process seemed very straightforward.  While it took 4 1/2 months to match, all the paperwork, etc. was very easy.  I feel for you guys that have those kinds of problems to deal with.  On the other hand, b/c I'm in a big city, my clinic is ALWAYS busy and crowded so while I've been going there for nearly 4 years ( FECK), sometimes I think my dr. forgets who I am.   Anyway, since my blasts were very very good, we are focusing now on my ute and my thyroid levels.  I have anti thyroglobulin antibodies (pre cursor to Hashimoto's) so while my last TSH was 2.5 or "normal" to my RE, we're testing it again (and the full thyroid panel).  No matter what, I'm asking him to put me on Synthroid.  I don't understand why they KNOW I'll get hashimoto's that they won't just treating me NOW?  Why let it creep up?  We're also checking with the hematologist on lowering the threshold (?) to have me on Lovenox next cycle + BA.  Oh and we're throwing in Folgard for good measure.  I'm a little pissed because all this could have been done this past cycle!  FECK.    I feel better because we the plan, but because the SHG has to be between cd6-10, we most likely can't cycle until Feb.  since we'll be out of town for XMAS .  It seemingly never ends.

QOTW: What resources do you know of for DEmbryo? What kinds of waiting lists do various programs have that you know of?

Same as most here, I used donor eggs, don't know much about dembryos.

Me: now over 40, careerwoman; DH: 34 love of my life

  • Happywife: I am sorry for all that you are going through.  Hope you find the perfect donor soon.

McIrish: Your continued strength is really an inspiration.  I am so sorry you are facing another roadblock, but hope it is a minor one.

Suzanne: Have you considered seeing a medical endocrinologist for your thyroid?  My levels were "high normal" (TSH, 3.5- all else in normal range- no Ab, etc.).  No one (2 RE's, one GP, one GYN) would prescribe me synthroid.  I went to a ME and problem solved.  He also found a Vitamin D deficiency. GL!

Status update: Today, we had a second U/S with a heartbeat.  Over Thanksgiving, I had quite a scare.  I was out of town and started bleeding (passed a clot) and cramping.  I thought for sure it was a m/c.  Luckily, my RE says everything is fine, but I honestly feel like I am constantly on edge.  Only time will tell.

I did not really research donor embryos, but might consider donating our remaining blasts if this pregnancy goes to term.  I am taking things one day at a time, though.

  • Happywife: I'm sorry about your donor and subsequent donor issues.  It is very frustrating and 10000 is a LOT for compensation.  Maybe if just means she is not the 'right' donor for you.  I know it's frustrating.  I think we are both at the same stage of the journey.  I hope things work out the way you want them.

McIrish: I'm sorry for one more road block.  I agree with PP you are an inspiration and a wealth of knowledge and experience.  I truly hope the good things are in store for the new year.

Suzanne: I don't know anything about TSH and such but want to wish you Good Luck!

Chicagobride:  Must have been a very anxious holiday for you but I'm glad everything is okay.  Fingers crossed everything stays that way.

Status update:  Today, clinic wrote and said that our chosen donor had a great cycle and they retrieved loads of eggs.  I am not sure of the exact number because she is being added to their frozen egg bank.  But we were able to get them to hold a few sets of eggs for our use (we asked for at least 2 sets so we can have enough for a 2nd transfer if the first try fails or best case scenario a sybling).  I know what our chances are, I'm just trying to be ready if the first fails. Finding this donor was a miracle in itself and we are lucky.  So they emailed us the paperwork to finalize making the eggs ours.  We have a call on Monday with one of the co-ordinators to sort through the administrative issues and a call on the 5th to speak with the Doctor.  I have had all prerequisite tests done, but DH has to redo SA since the last one was over a year ago.  He's set up to do that on the 13th.  With the eggs secured we are one step closer and I hope we can somehow arrange transfer in January!

All this means that of course I'm super excited and a bit irrationally optimistic with regard to our future.  But even though I know I need to slow down and think rationally about all of this I can't seem to help myself.

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

  • Nothing much new to report with me as far as cycle progress.  Although, I did get the wind knocked out of my sails this week when I found out I have adenomyosis.  This is something that I had no idea I had and has developed since my last SIS (seven months ago).  I have been coming to terms with the fact that it could lower our odds of success significantly but at the same time am trying to stay positive.

QOTW: I really don?t have any knowledge to share in the realm of donor embryos as this is not something we have considered.

Mrs. McIrish: You are in T&P?s.  My fingers are crossed that your next cycle surprises you.  You are certainly overdue for good fortune.

Happywife: I am so very sorry that things didn?t work out with your chosen donor.

liz4paws:  I hope that your FDA issue gets ironed out... It must be so frustrating to have obstacles like this put in your path when you are so close to the finish line.

Becky: I completely relate to you in regards to the BFN?s lately.  This whole process can be so scary and the realization of the fact that it might not work is so hard to swallow.  The way I have been dealing with it is I have been telling myself that even though it may  not work the chances are far greater than with my own eggs.  In my case, going in to DE my projected success rate was 65% and now with this new adenomyosis diagnosis I am at 35% according to my RE... It totally sucks but it is so much better than the 8% live birth rate he gave me after my C/P.  Hang in there sweetie!

SuzanneJesse:  Good luck regarding your Hashimoto?s diagnosis.  Hopefully your RE will be willing to try you out on the lowest dose of Synthroid.  I would start low because you don?t want to send your numbers the other way (hyperthyroid).  My TSH was over 5 when I was diagnosed and they prescribed me 50 mcg of levothyroxine.  For some reason I decided that I was only going to start with half a pill and my levels six weeks on were 1.5.  They then switched me to Synthroid and I have been on 25 mcg ever since and still at 1.5 - 1.75 with regular testing.

Chicagobride:  I having been thinking about you and praying that everything is going well for you.  FX that your worries are completely unfounded and that this time next year your little bundle of joy is safely in our arms.

BabyVDM:  I am so excited that things are moving forward for you!  Good luck with your consults this week and FX that DH?s SA is perfect!

  • Sorry for the late check in, things have been crazy at work and with our cycle. Hope everyone is doing well!

Update: We are doing a double donor split cycle. I had my lining check on Friday and things are looking good. The donor is going in either sometime this weekend or Monday and we'll hear about how she is progressing soon. Then they'll let us know when our expected transfer date will be.

QOTW: My first clinic had their own donor embryo program so that's where I initially went, before I left them out of frustration because of their disorganization. I went to the following boards for resources, and followed some blogs as well:
