Favorite (Non-Holiday) Happy Movie

What are some of your favorite non-holiday-themed movies (or television series) that make you happy and/or relaxed (i.e. not horror, action/thriller, really sad/intense drama, etc)?

I usually like the latter, but I'm trying to keep my cortisol levels down!

  • I love A River Runs Through It; it is my favorite movie. And since I have no patience for dull movies, I watch lots of documentaries, recently it was Jiro Dreams of Sushi and the Lost Son of Havana. TV? Downton Abbey, Up All Night, and various Nat. Geo. shows to watch with the kiddo.  If I really want to mellow out, nothing like a nice bunch of "House Hunters" to lull me into utter couch-potato-dom.

I'm super nerdy. : )  I also love me some Roseanne, which keep it real. : )

"Things separate from their stories have no meaning. They are only shapes. Of a certain size and color. A certain weight. When their meaning has become lost to us they no longer have even a name. The story on the other hand can never be lost from its place in the world for it is that place.” ― Cormac McCarthy, The Crossing

  • My vote definitely goes for any of the raunchy comedies - Knocked Up, Bridesmaids, Zack & Miri Make a Porno, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, etc.

  • I like all these suggestions! I would add feel good 80s movies like Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Weird Science, 16 Candles. And other teen movies like Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion. My wife walks in on me watching these and knows I'm having a mental health moment.

I am in love with the logo tv series Ru Paul's Drag Race. It is like america's next top model meets project runway. And the queens are amazing. You can watch them on logo tv online for free or Netflix streaming. Start with season 1.

Ru Paul also does a show on logo tv called Drag U where women get makeovers from a drag queen. It is my dream to be on this show.

Lastly, I have to say I love A River Runs Through It mentioned above. It was filmed in my hometown in Montana. But it is in the category of sad intense drama and it will make you cry!

That's it. I've officially shared all my secrets.

  • Our go to for "there is nothing on tv" (despite having every freaking channel!) is the Food network. Apparently, I hate to cook, but love watching others cook. Plus, it is kid friendly and the kids love watching shows on there.

We also love Jon Stewart for laughs.

  • The ladies on 3T just reminded me how much I love Finding Nemo!  And Up, although it has its sad moments the overall message is uplifting.

Other than those two, I'm useless.  My movie tastes run in the "awesome explosions" action and "indie dramas about dysfunctional families" genres.

C and I also have a fairly ridiculous tradition of watching things about babies during the 30 minute wait after the insem.  Might be a bit over the top for the TWW, but we love the documentary "Babies".  Most important lesson: if you lint roll your baby on camera, you might end up looking ridiculous.

Same sex couple TTC with donor sperm.  I am 35 and carrying.  Endometriosis and DOR.
