Heart flutters and palpitations?

For the last week I have been experiencing off and on heart flutters and palpitations. I have read this is normal due to the increased blood flow but it hasn't stopped for a week. Its usually when I am resting and it stops when I am up and moving around. I'm of course worried about the little one, I hope there is enough blood pumping through (FTM response, I know) I will be 14 weeks tomorrow and I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I made an apt with my doctor on Friday just to be safe.

Re: Heart flutters and palpitations?

  • FTM here, too!  I've been having the same flutters for the past 3 days.  At first, I attributed it to the fact that I had a diet coke or two over Thanksgiving, after not having any in 3 months.  Not sure what it is, but I also have an appointment on Friday.  Hopefully it's nothing!

  • Mine has been doing that on and off since I found out I was pregnant, especially when I lay on my left side, for whatever reason.  I keep forgetting to bring it up with my Dr. though.  DH is a physician and he keeps listening to my heart with his stethoscope and says it sounds totally normal.  I was starting to think it was all in my head!

  • I think I mentioned this to the Midwife with my first kid and she said it was totally normal because mine were happening very frequently! It never hurts to get a good dr opinion though Smile

  • I was born with heart defects and pregnancy makes them worse. I have a lot of flutters and heart paps. My dr says it is ok. As long as I am not passing out.  However yesterday I was having major dizzy spells

  • I experience this almost nightly as I'm settling into bed. I am not worried about it, but I was when pregnant with Ds, so I had asked my Ob then.

I'm sure it's just fine, but like pp said, you can always call and ask for some peace of mind.

  • The same thing happens to me, especially after a nap. My ob said if Im lying down when this occurs it could be a side effect of acid reflux. She prescribed me prilosec but I have yet to take it.

  • first time poster here!

I am definitely glad to have found this post because I have been experiencing the same thing! I will be 14 weeks tomorrow and have noticed the past couple of nights that I have been experiencing light anxiety like symptoms. I am so glad to know that this is normal!

  • DITTO to every single thing everyone has said about this!

I, too, will be 14 weeks tomorrow. I have had heart flutters and palpitations for YEARS. Actually, about a year ago, I had an echocardiogram and a 24 hour heart monitor just to make sure everything was fine... which it was. The palpitations can be normal in a non-pregnant person (as they are with me) but can sometimes start or become more frequent in pregnancy due to the extra demands on all your systems. Ask your doc just for peace of mind-- but it's likely fine. Good luck!

  • Wow, thank you so much ladies! I have to say, you all have made me feel much better and I am glad to hear I am not alone in this!
  • I have it too.  I'm glad you posted about it, because I was worried that something was wrong (going to ask my doc about it at my appt on 12/4)
