Big Girl Clothes

It's been 10.5 week since my DS was born.  I still can't fit into my regular size jeans.  I've been getting by with yoga pants, maternity pants and one pair of my big girl pants that I had before I got pregnant.  I was not wanting to buy big girl clothes because obviously I didn't want to use them long but now I'm thinking I should break down and just get some.

Have many of you bought bigger clothes?  Are any of you lucky enough to fit into your old pants yet?

  • Not necessary plus size but bigger than my pre-pregnancy clothes.

  • I'm back in my pre-pregnancy pants, but I don't need a belt (I did pre-pregnancy), so they are still tighter than before.  Many of my pre-pregnancy dresses and shirts don't fit so well because my boobs are gigantic thanks to BF.

If you need some pants to get by maybe try a consignment shop....then they won't be as expensive and you can save your money for getting clothes when you get back where you want to be!

  • I broke down and bought a pair of pants about a month ago. I call them my fat fat jeans. Now I can fit into my fat jeans, now I just need to get into my jeans.

Big girl clothes = plus size.
  • I wore my regular jeans home from the hospital.  I lost 45lbs while home on ML but now that Im back to work and get bored, I eat.  I'm doing WW and would like to lose another 70, but this time of year just makes me sad with all the delicious treats available.

And I agree with PP about cutting out the tags.  It's just a number.  I have pants in 18, 20 and 22, and they all fit, it's just different sizes among brands.  Better to find things that fit and look good on you, vs shoving yourself into too tight stuff that looks bad and isn't comfortable.

  • I wasn't in my prepreg clothes when I started back to work after my first son. I bought pants and 2 pair of jeans in a size bigger than I used to wear. They ended up being great to have for my next pregnancy because I could wear them almost my entire pregnancy and just after. Also jeans with stretch work good for me. I bought 2 pair of Rerock jeans on ebay because I wanted good jeans but didn't want to spend on lot. My pants were pretty much all Limited and Express from TJ Maxx. Wrap dresses were also my friend.

  • I was really small pre-pregnancy. There is no way I will fit back into those clothes as my hips have expanded 3 inches and my boobs are still large. So, I went ahead and bought two pair of blue jeans and some dresses and tops for work. I have to find some professional pants. Absolutely none of my pre-preg clothes fit. I'm okay with that. I know my body is different now. I feel immensely better wearing clothes that fit my new body. It actually has done wonders for my self esteem.

Big girl clothes? Like, plus sizes?

My opinion, as someone who has bounced between plus and standard sizes for as long as I can remember, is that if you don't like what the tag says just cut it out. Seriously. Clothing that fits, regardless of the size on the label, is priceless.

I am in my pre-pregnancy clothes and most of them are too big, but I am an odd one. I was sick my entire pregnancy, only gained 7lbs. Then I had to have my gallbladder removed because I was so sick. I didn't eat anything for the entire year, it seems.

This. You had a baby, and unless your super freaking lucky, your not going to drop down to your pre-pregnancy weight right away. I've always hated the saying 9 months on, 9 months off, but now that I'm not dropping my weight very fast, I find myself saying that a lot. I broke down, and got a pair of 'fat' jeans. It actually does make me feel better that I have jeans to wear now that don't have an elastic band.

Yep. I'm currently wearing a size 14 jean, I was between an 8 and a 10 pre pregnancy. Also as someone who's struggled with weight (At my biggest I was a 16 and at my smallest a 6) I agree 100% with Anita. Cut the tag out. No one will know, except you and if they fit and look good, who cares what size they are?

  • I bought bigger clothes after my first pregnancy. I gained a lot more weight with that one than I did this time, but I am still wearing those bigger clothes now. Granted, I wore them for 8-10 months after my first pregnancy and I am only 2 months postpartum this time. I do feel good wearing clothes that fit and people say I look great all the time (not trying to be an AW), even though I am 3 sizes bigger than I was pre-pg. I think it helps that I am tall, too.

  • I refuse to buy new clothes! But I do have several friends that just had babies so we tend to just trade clothes! I was very small before getting pregnant so I know it will take me some time BUT i do have a cruise with DH and several friends in MARCH for spring break sooooo I have 4 months to get rid of about 40 lbs! [:/] probably not going to happen and its a goal so I will just work my hardest!

    This.

And I just recently could get my prepreg pants on but I wear them like I did when I was first or early second tri PG... with a hair tie holding the button closed-ish.

All of this.   I had to buy a whole new work wardrobe.  I was a 2/4 before pregnancy and am wearing a 10/12 now.  I'm okay with my new body shape.  I would love to tone up my abs and legs again but as far as my shape and weight, I'm cool.  I feel more...womanly...now if that makes sense.

ETA:  Also, I bought my entire wardrobe from Walmart, Target, Wet Seal, Marshall's, Forever 21 (yes, they have large sizes) and believe it or not...Goodwill.   So, I got a ton of clothes for very cheap.
