Blanket

So my friend came over and she has five kids.....oh and one on the way literally all almost a year apart. No idea how the hell she does it but anyways she mentioned to me that she put and continues to put with her youngest who is five months a blanket down in the crib covering him. I am afraid too use a blanket. My question is....how many of you do use a blanket? When it's cold do you just heat the house and use footed pjs only? Im just curious as she made it seem like I should know this.

Re: Blanket

  • We do. You can be safer using one and tucking it into the bottom of the crib so he can't pull it above his head.

  • We do for naps but I haven't yet for bedtime sleep. It makes me too nervous. She does have a lovey though. I have an a&a sleep sack and a fleece one for when it is cold.

  • We do. Her room is chilly and the rest of the apartment is quite cold so we use a blanket over her legs while she's sleeping. Most mornings when she wakes up she has kicked it off. Other times it hasn't moved at all.

  • We don't, even with Ds1 whos almost 2 years old lol. Hes never used one before and last month when I tried, he kept getting mad and taking it off. We have a space heater in his room.

I'm just not comfortable with it. I don't want B to accidentally cover his face and suffocate or something. And hes never been too cold. The swaddle is sufficient.
  • On nights when I wake up cold I'll tuck a blanket around his legs. The last week its been pretty cold so we put him in footy pjs, and a sleeveless sleep sack over it.

  • We have always used a blanket. I put it over her legs. It's always in the same spot when she wakes.

  • I do. Wrapped around his waist and legs. Since he mostly sleeps on his tummy the blanket is still where I left it.

  • Why don't you just use a sleep sack? It's safer and probably warmer than a blanket since you know it'll stay on and it has all that trapped body heat.

I'm too nervous to use a real blanket even at naps. DS still wears a swaddle me. You could put one of those on and leave the arms out. The fleece ones are super warm.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • Thanks girls. My lo moves a lot during the night! It's been chilly in fl the past few nights. I don't know how you girls live up north! We stopped swaddeling because Ped said after three months it could mess with growth of his hips?

  • We do and have for a while.  The one we use is fairly light and she never has had it over her head, most of the time she kicks it off.   We also tuck it in the bottom and sometimes the sides.

  • We use sleep sacks for DS. During the day when he is napping he uses a light Aden Anis blanket. I only do this because he is checked on all the time and because it is so thin he can breath thru it.
