Recommend Good Books on Getting Baby to Sleep?

Hi all...so after yet another glorious up every hour night and taking about 2 hours to get her to settle each time, I really need to find a good "sleep training" book before my head falls off of my neck. She'll be 4 months on December 8th so I don't mind starting the whole process a bit early.

*I've seen people post books that they recommend before I just don't remember what the titles were...*

  • Ah the wakeful 4 month stage. I know. It's really hard. That bring said I don't think sleep training is recommended yet, unless you are simply establishing a routine which is always good. As far as books go I love Goodnight Moon

  • I love Goodnight Moon too! But I mean books like "Happy Baby, Happy Sleep" by doctor so-and-so, haha. I don't even know if I want to do "sleep training" as much as I am running out of steam/ideas. She's never slept longer than an hour or so at a time and now she's sleeping even less.

  • Mollyxcate loves baby books lol. Ages the perfect person to ask.

I got Love You Forever, Brown Bear Brown Bear, Guess How Much I Love You, a big book that has all of the little monkey stories, and plan to get lots if Dr Seuss books.

  • Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child by Dr. Weissbluth is good. It explains a lot about why babies do certain behaviors around sleep. He doesn't necessarily expect you to CIO and gives all sorts of advice about how to avoid that. CIO is a last resort.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • Okay I was so tired I misread your post. I can't really recommend sleep training books because I'm not going to start until 6mo. A routine definitely helped my baby sleep better, and sort of a nap schedule.

  • OK, obviously you could tell I haven't slept well - I can't even comprehend your post. I second Health Sleep Habits Healthy Child.

  • Not a book, but the blog Troublesome Tots has excellent advice in a concise format.  She has done MANY posts on sleep training, sleeping through the night, etc.  I also like the gal who writes Chronicles of a Babywise Mom (another blog) but I know how controversial that is.

Books I have read are The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems and The No-Cry Nap Solution.  I am a big fan of the Baby Whisperer books.

  • The No Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley was a great resource for DS1, and I'll use it again for DS2 most likely.
