Nurseries and Baby Gear

I know there are tons of these...but quick carseat question.

When looking at the size of an infant seat head to foot. Does anyone know if the Chicco Keyfit 30 is smaller than the Graco Snugride 30? I've looked at the dimensions and the Chicco according to dimensions is obviously smaller but does anyone have personal experience with this? I drive a small car and was going to get a mid size SUV before baby came but decided I do not want to take on a car note right now. I plan on putting baby behind me since my seat is already pretty far up and there will be more room but I like both carseats and would prefer the smaller of the 2. TIA

  • The Keyfit 30 is a smaller footprint than the Snugride 30. It fits smaller spaces better.

  • I had a Chicco Keyfit in my 05' Honda Civic (four door) when DD was born, I had to put her in the middle because the seat would have had to have been all the way up to get her in. My DH couldn't ride in my car if we had her, so we drove his truck everywhere. I since traded my Honda for an Acadia so we don't have the issue anymore, but even with a larger car I don't think we can put the Chicco behind the driver seat if my husband were to drive the car (he's 6'-5" and has the seat all the way back). So, now that I have the family car, DH will drive when we're all together, DD has a high back booster behind the driver seat and DS will be in his infant seat behind the passenger (we have captain's chairs, not a bench).

  • You will even have trouble with some mid-size SUV's trying to put the infant seat behind your driver's seat.  In my Jeep Liberty we put the car seat behind the passenger seat and it had to be moved as far forward to get the seat in.  No one could have possibly sat in the front passenger seat.  I am so glad we got rid of it and got a Honda Pilot instead.

  • you might want to try the 22 versions - they tend to be smaller, and you're likely going to get a convertible sooner rather than later. There's no way I would be lugging my baby around in the infant seat past 6 months, so I saved myself the extra weight of the 30s and went with a 22.

  • Thanks for all the help! I think DH and I are going to BRU this weekend and I am going to see if I can try out some of the displays in my car before we make a decision.
