Colorado Babies

2 questions

Hi,I'm Kasey and new to this board. My H and I are going to TTC in December. Is it better to start prenatal vitamins before we get pregnant? Did you take them too?

and I'm new to the Altitude here in Co. Just moved here in May, should I be concerned about anything in particular regarding that?

and if anyone is near Parker can you recommend your OBGYN?

thanks everyone

Re: 2 questions

  • Yes, you should start taking prenatals now. I took them from TTC until after I finished breastfeeding.

As for the altitude, I have only lived here 3 motnhs, so I can't answer that. But I am interested to hear from other ladies!

  • I've heard it's best to start prenatals prior as well...if you know in advance.

I was new too when I first got pregnant.  It takes around 6 months to acclimate..othing pregnancy related happened.  I would just be careful about going higher than 10,000 ft.  and then stay hydrated and rest to breathe when you need to.

  • Definitely start prenatals a few months before TTC.
There is nothing special about altitude except that you can become dehydrated more easily, and you'll find yourself put of breath easily too. Since your heart rate jumps up when you're prego, I'd work on getting your cardio in good shape before hand so a flight of stairs won't kick your tail when your pregnant.
I love Ridgegate OBGYN in Skyridge hospital. It's not too far from Parker.
    Welcome to Colorado!
  • The typical recommendation I've heard is to start taking prenatals 3 months before you conceive (if you are able).  I did this and took the ones w/ DHA which my Doctor really wanted me to do.

I would really recommend the OBGYN Center.  https://www.obgyncenter.com

I see Dr. Etten there and she is absolutely amazing as are a few of the other doctors/nurse practitioners I've met.  They have an office in Parker and in Lone Tree and deliver at both hospitals.

     Good luck! :)
