Another convertible carseat ?

I have heard that the convertible seats are a lot more comfy for LO's. Is this true? When we visit my parents it is at least a 5 hour car ride, and DS is miserable by the time we get there. Our infant seat goes to 35 lbs, but if he would be more comfortable in a convertible I may get one sooner than later.

Re: Another convertible carseat ?

  • I do daycare and I have to provide transportation to and from school. I got a convertible carseat to put in the van that I use for transportation so that I am not carrying a carseat to and from a vehicle four times a day, LO doesn't seem to prefer it one way or the other. She doesn't like to be in a carseat if it isn't moving though, so she usually starts crying to be let out five minutes after we get to the school. Sorry I guess I'm not much help!

  • I have no clue. I've never sat in one. ;) I do like that it seems to sit them up a bit more. We've had Hannah in a convertible seat since day 1 but I actually switched her to a bucket seat recently just because it's getting so freaking cold and I like that I can have a cover over it instead of having to worry about snow suits and blankets and trying to keep her warm.

  • I don't think it's safe for them to be any more padded than an infant seat, so they're probably the same comfort-wise. Some kids like them better because they are higher up and they can see out the window. We switched DD1 at 7 months because we were going on a 10 hour road trip and wanted her to have a little more arm room. She was so squished in the infant seat. With DD2, I'm in no rush because she's much smaller than her sister was.

  • We just got a convertible seat (Britax Roundabout) for an upcoming 10 hour drive. It's still in the box, but I'm hoping to get it installed tomorrow. He doesn't seem to have much shoulder room left in the bucket seat and today, he didn't want to sit back in the seat. For the past few weeks he's been really unhappy in the infant seat, screaming until he passes out. I'm hoping that having more room to move his arms and the ability to sit higher will help make the 10 drive tolerable.

  • The convertible seat has them sitting up more and not in a whole like the infant seat. Both my big boys preferred the convertible seat a lot more. They could see out the window and their stomachs were not as crunched.
