Okay, so I go in tomorrow for my sonogram. I will be 20 weeks on Friday. We are super excited to find out (hopefully) if it is a boy or girl. Now, the front desk person told me to be sure to have a full bladder for the sonogram. But they didn't give me a certain amount to drink, etc.
Any tips or suggestions on how much to drink and when. I fear that if I drink too much or too early that I will have to pee horribly during the sonogram and not make it through it If I don't drink enough, will it really make a huge difference at 20 weeks or will they tell me they cannot do the sonogram. Its too bad my OB office cannot be one that has newer equipment where you don't have to worry about this whole full bladder deal!

Ditto this
2 glasses is enough for me. i had 3 last time and she made me go to the bathroom twice to release half of it. The letter I received in the mail said to drink 1L an hour before the appt, but that 1L is for ppl who don't usually drink water, so they say more to be on the safe side.
At 20 weeks, they say 28 oz ..a 2-3 glasses will suffice..if it's too much, they will always let you release some of it out, but that is hard to judge sometimes too.

Is that the reason why some people need full bladders and others don't? It makes sense. I have been wondering why I never have to have a full bladder and they always ask if I need to pee before they start. Our hospital is the biggest and newest in the area and I also go to MFM for my ultrasounds with my HR OB.
Sorry I don't have any sage advice on how much and when to drink. I it was me, I would probably down my whole Nalgene bottle (32 oz) about 30 mins to an hour before the appt.
This. I wasn't given any instructions at my a/a, but drank 1 cup of water an hour before. My bladder was kinda full, but not to the point where I was uncomfortable baby boy was moving positioned well. Good luck!!
I'm a bit confused by this as well - I do not remember having to have a full bladder for the 20w u/s 7 years ago w/ dd.
This time when I got my paperwork for the a/s, it says to drink 30oz 1hr before appt. I'm fairly sure I'll be asked to pee when she starts, but I guess I'll follow directions.
