TTC after D&C?

Hello ladies. I will (unfortunately) be joining this board, as I go in for my D&C tomorrow. For those of you who have needed a D&C (I should be 9 weeks, but baby measured 6 weeks), how long were you instructed to wait before TTC? Also, how long was it before your period returned?

I'm heading in for a follow up next week and I'm really looking forward to hearing what my doc had to say.

I would really ask your doctor when you head in for the procedure. I think it really varies from one lady to the next.

I'm sorry for your loss. Check out the blog, as it has answers and polls related to both of your questions. I can't link it for you bc I'm on my phone, but I'm sure someone will link it. Every person and Dr is different. I've had 3 DnCs and have been told 3 different timetables. It'll be best that you check with your dr, as he or she knows your specific situation. Hugs and GL

I am sorry for your loss. Every woman and doctor is different. Some say you can start right away some make you wait 1 or more cycles. Your period is even more tricky. Again everyone is different some women have come in and had their period 2 weeks later, it took mine 60 days and I had to have it jump started with provera. Please read the blog you will get tons of info and support from this board, but most of your questions you have right now are in the blog. It's a life saver for sure. Good luck with your appointment. And again I am very sorry for your loss.

My doctor told us to wait till my first normal cycle started. My period came 33 days after my D&C...but it did take my HCG levels a while to go down to 0. I would recommend asking the doctor to draw blood after the D&C to track your HCG levels to make sure they go down properly. I am so sorry for your loss! Sending hugs your way!

Your doctor will tell you all this. And ask if they don't.

Right before my d and e we were told to wait 3 cycles. At my follow up appointment 2 weeks later, he gave us the all clear to start as soon as we wanted. We waited the cycle out for emotional reasons.

Good luck. Have ice cream and a heating pad at home for afterwards.

Sorry for your loss. Welcome to the board. As everyone mentioned:ask your doctor what they want you to do..it differs with every doctor. My doctor just asked us to wait one cycle. After my d&c it took 5 weeks to get AF..but of course it varies with everyone.

So sorry you're here, but welcome.

I had a DC in September. One doc told me to wait two cycles. Another doc at the same practice told me to wait one cycle, and that was just so I would have a good idea of dating based on AF. It really does vary. Prayers sent for you for tomorrow.

As pp have said, be sure to ask your Dr about when your are able to TTC again. Personally we were told to wait 1 cycle and my AF came 27 days after my D&C.

So sorry you are having to join the board. I hope you find comfort and support here. After my D&C it took 5 weeks for AF to show and my Dr. recommended 2 cycles before we could try again. I think it is different for everyone.

I'm sorry for your loss. Welcome to the board though. Please check out the TTCAL blog. The link is in the header of our page. This blog will answer a lot of your questions.

Please ask your doctor on when you should TTC. Everyone here has a different background so we will have different answers. After your D & C you should have a follow up with your doctor, normally about 1-2 weeks post D & C. At that time, your doctor will discuss the test results from your D&C, when/if you are cleared to have intercourse, when to TTC again, etc. I would bring and think of questions you want to ask to be prepared.

My doctor told me after the first cycle to TTC again. AF arrived about 5 weeks after D&C, and after AF we started trying again. I was at 8 weeks along when I m/c, but the baby showed at 6 weeks 5 days.

I am sorry for your loss

Everyone has already given you lots of advice. Today is week 5 since my D & C and still no period. I have been tracking my HCG by HPT and last week I finally got a negative. I had irregular periods to begin with, so if its still a no show by the end of the week I start progestrone to give it a jump start. Then we are clear to TTC again. I hope your stay here is short and sweet. * HUGS*

So sorry for your loss. My loss and D&C was at 9w3d and LO measured 6w. I was told at my 2w checkup that we could start trying again right away, but every doctor is different. Make sure to ask your's at your check-up. It took 8w for AF to return for me.

I am so sorry for your loss! Your doc should tell you and every doc is different but mine told be to wait 2 cycles. My AF returned on day 33 following my d&e.
