TTC After a Loss

*** madeinbrazil ***

I saw your post on the crazy train thread, and was curious why your doctor increased your synthroid dosage?  Have you been on it for long, or are you still working on getting your levels in the normal range?

The only reason I ask is because I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism, and have been trying to figure out the correct dosage of synthroid for the past few months.  My endocrinologist benched me from TTC until my levels are where he wants them to be.  I'm still really new to this, and don't understand a lot of it.

    Hi there!
I was diagnosed years ago, also auto immune, but always sub clinical.

Back in July the TSH was above 5 so my PCP started me with 25 mg.

My OB ran the numbers again, right before my MC and hey were close to 3. After the MC she referred me to a endo.

The endo increased the dosage to 75mg because we would be TTC again and she wants the numbers close to 1.
I have a follow up next month to check if this dosage is the proper one.

    Hope it helps!!

PS she also monitors my T3 and T4... I just don't know from he top of my head now.

  • Hope you don't mind me asking but are your numbers really high? What is your dosage?

It really sucks you need to be benched.

  • This is what annoys me.  My primary physician told me I was only slightly hypo, but when I went to the endocrinologist he said mine was 9.  He never gave me specifics for T3 & T4.

My primary only put me on 25mg to start.  I was on that for about 6 weeks before seeing the endo.  My primary never told me I couldn't take the synthroid the same time as my prenatal, or that I couldn't take it within an hour of eating.  I'm pretty sure those 6 weeks were pointless.  Endo said the synthroid wouldn't get absorbed b/c of the prenatal and food.

The endo upped my dosage to 88mg at the end of last month.  I'm having b/w done on Friday to see where I'm at.

It is very frustrating that most OB and PCP's wont really pay much attention to Thyroid issues!! Should be part of every prenqtal care, as the evidence is overwhelming on the effects that can have on preganacy especially first T.

The instructions to take are also overseen by drs and pharmacists. I'm glad that you somehow have it under control.

PS please share any new instructions you might have!!

My primary and my GYN have been checking on my thyroid since '07, but neither thought it was an issue at the time.  Nothing that needed to be medicated.  I wish when I told them a year and a half ago that I would be TTC soon, that one of them decided to test me again.  Might have saved me 2 m/c's.

I'll let you know how I make out after I get my results back!
