Anyone want to join me?!

I have decided tonight is night 1 of not bringing Kellen in bed with me after his first wake up.  We are just not sleeping well like this anymore.  He is waking up constantly thrashing around and I know he isn't comfortable in my arms but he wants to be in them if he is in my bed.

So, I have his "baby" (a blanket friend) stuffed down my shirt right now (haha that sounds funny now that I said it) to get my smell on it and I am going to try some new things tonight.  First I am going to try just rubbing his back and not picking him up.  If that doesn't work I am going to rock him but no nursing.  I know I will be exhausted and it will probably take a while but it needs to happen.

Anyone want to take the plunge with me!?

  • Good luck!  When I did this I started sending DH in on the first wake up because I knew she wasn't hungry.  This wake up used to be around 12am so it didn't affect DH's sleep too much.  Eventually she stopped waking at this time.  This is after some crying and searching for me though.  She would push away from DH, yell, and then look at the door like Mom, I'm calling you!  I'm glad I never witnessed it because I probably would have gone in to get her.

Now when I send DH in when I know she's not hungry she sometimes gives him a hard time and wants me.  But she does allow me to rock her and put her back down, MOST of the time.  Unless it's after 2:30am, then she wants to nurse.

  • No plunge here.. I took the plunge a couple months ago and let him CIO.... for 2 months now he has been STTN for 10-12 hours.  It's not for everyone obviously, but I am happy I did it. I think you are doing a great job about getting your scent on his blanket, that will help I am sure. It just takes time for them to get used to the new environment, but he will adapt. Just be strong and stick to your guns :)

    Good Luck!!!

  • Good luck!

After doing CIO the girls want nothing to do with us where sleep is concerned.  They won't fall asleep in our arms, won't let us rock them to sleep, and won't sleep in our bed.  I suppose it's a good thing that they're independent sleepers, but I really, really miss cuddling with sleeping babies.

  • I will take the plunge with you :) Nat only sleeps for 45min to 1hr in the crib and it drives me insane! Over the holiday, I've been thinking more and more that she needs to sleep more in the crib and less in our bed. Shall we be buddies?
