  • Hi Jaci- My Dr. said that if we could wait for 2 cycles, that would be optimal and that is what she recommends based on my situation. She said to def wait at least one cycle. Each woman's situation is different. What did your Dr. tell you?

  • My dr. had us wait for two cycles which hasn't happened yet. Everyone has a different situation so it is best to do what your doctor tells you. Also this same clicky poll is in the TTCAL blog, I don't know if you've had a chance to check it out but there is tons of helpful info on there!

  • Well, apparently my doc is a crappy doc because not only did they simply "cancel my appointment" when I told them I had a mc, but they didn't suggest I come in or talk to them, want me to be examined, or anything.  I just thought that was normal :o/  I started bleeding on Wednesday, passed the baby Friday, and the bleeding was very light today.  I imagine it will stop tomorrow.  Should I be seen?

I am so sorry for your loss. My experience is with a D&C, but I still had a follow up just to discuss TTC in the future, how I was doing and answer questions. If I had passed naturally, they wouldve had me come in for an u/s to make sure everything had passed and to answer questions. I believe that yes, you should be seen. Good luck!

ETA: I also think you should find another Dr. I am so sorry that you are here, and that your dr. is not giving you the attention that you deserve.

  • I would reccommend you go into to see your dr. There are a lot of questions to ask after you have a m/c. At the very least I would call and see how long they want you to wait until you start trying again.

  • I agree with PPs - please talk to your doctor.  A clicky poll is fun and all, but there is such a range of experience, that it really doesn't tell you anything useful.  My 5 wk chemical pregnancy requires a very different course of action than somebody who had a 15 wk D&C with complications.

GL whenever you doctor gives you the okay to try again.
    PAIF/SAIF, PGAL/PAL welcome.
TTC since March 2010 ~ Dx Unexplained IF September 2011
    2011: IUI + Clomid = CP#1
2012: 3 more IUIs + Clomid = 3 more CPs. One on-our-own pg, also CP
    2013: BTB IUI + Lupron/Follistim/Prometrium/PIO = CP #6
IF testing, RPL testing, Autoimmune testing = all normal
    So lost.

I'm sorry for your loss.  I definitely recommend checking in with a doctor.  At the very least they should confirm that the miscarriage is complete.

Someone here started trying as soon as the bleeding stopped?  Yikes.  I'd want at least a cycle to get a new lining in there.

I didn't vote (because I've got 3 different answers), but my RE didn't have a problem with us TTC right away after my mini-pregnancies.  A loss at 4 weeks doesn't really require any special action, and my betas were already back to zero by the time my bleeding had stopped.

    PAIF/SAIF, PGAL/PAL welcome.

I agree w Red about the variety of answers. Also, I know that m/c are a very normal part of what OBs see...God I almost vomitted typing the word normal...but I don't like that your Dr didn't even want to check to make sure that everything passed. Maybe I'm wrong and maybe that's pretty standard. My Drs always follow up with me, although I do tend to have MMC. Anyway, I hope you can get some answers.

  • I said 6 months or longer because we waited a year simply to allow for separation and time to grieve.

  • I had a natural mc at 7 weeks as well. My doctor had me come in 4 weeks later and did a pelvic exam before clearing me to TTC again. We waited an additional month because emotionally we were not ready yet.

Someone here started trying as soon as the bleeding stopped?nbsp; Yikes.nbsp; I'd want at least a cycle to get a new lining in there.

The lining argument doesn't really make any sense. The bleeding is the shedding of the lining. Once the bleeding has ceased, your uterus is once again a blank canvas for a new lining to rebuild. Its the inherent part of the menstral cycle. A natural miscarriage is triggered by the diminished level of progesterone, same as the end of a regular cycle. Even if you have a d and c, you'll still encounter some heavy bleeding after the procedure for this same reason. Cd1 is Cd1. It's the start of a new lining.

BUT OP, here's the thing, there are often complications like retained tissue, remaining hcg, and just wacky flucking hormones. You need to see your doctor an get the all clear.

To answer your question, after my first loss we waited one cycle for emotional reasons, and it actually turned into 2 due to my 2nd cycle being crazy. After the second we waited 1 again. After my 3rd we landed up waiting 3 cycles to go through RPL testing. The ony time we were explicitly told to avoid was for RPL testing as bein pregnant would interfere with the results and testing procedures. All other times we were given the all clear at follow up appointments.

  • My MW never had me come in. I've found on here that's definitely not the norm. She told us to wait one cycle. We technically waited four. We had a cross country move and our schedules were nuts. That said, we didn't avoid then either.

  • Thank you for all of the different answers.  My head has been in a whirlwind the last few days and I never looked at a "newbie" blog or anything like that.  This has quite literally been the craziest week of my life.  My DD woke up on Wednesday morning at 3:30, covered in vomit.  She threw up 3 more times that morning while I was on a mission to clean her room before the in-laws came.  3 hours after the in-laws arrived, we were getting ready to go out to dinner to celebrate DH's birthday (his bday is on Nov. 14).  I went to the bathroom before we left and saw bright red blood.  Fast forward two hours and I knew my pregnancy was over.  In-laws were here for the whole thing.  Thanksgiving was a big ball of sadness.  Friday, I passed the baby and DH and I buried him/her.  Saturday, we tried to pretend like it was just another day.  Sunday, the in-laws left, DH took DD to church with him, and I relaxed for a few hours.  When DD woke from her nap, she had a fever.  It was worse on Monday, and this morning, it was 104.2.  I took her to the pediatrician this morning and they ordered an x-ray.  The technician asked me 3 times if there was ANY chance I was pregnant right now.  It took all I had to not break down and tell her I was 6 days ago.  So yeah, it's been a long and crazy week, my daughter is sick, and we still don't know what's going on with her :(

I'm not looking at other people's answers as my own medical advice.  I was just curious what the group's experiences were.  Is there a separate board for early losses?
