Multivitamin for LO?

Which multivitamin do you give your LO?  We gave Vitamin D through CK's first birthday (since she was EBF), and recently switched to Poly-Vi-Sol (with added iron) since her iron came back low in her 1-year blood work results.  However, it's starting to stain her teeth a little (we give it to her BEFORE brushing her teeth... apparently there's a disclaimer that it can temporarily stain teeth a grayish color).

So, I thought I'd just to see what everyone else is doing...

TIA!

Re: Multivitamin for LO?

  • I opted to skip the Poly-Vi-Sol with both my kids. It was horribly tasting and they never liked it. My DD fought it so hard because of the taste and it stained all her clothes (and mine). We waited until closer to 18 months and just started the gummy vitamins. To this day my DD loves them and soon I will start DS on them once I know he can handle gummies.

This just makes more sense for us. Our pedi said it was fine as long as LO was getting a rounded diet. My DD didn't start getting picky with food until 18 months, which is why we started the gummy vitamins. DS isn't picky yet, so I'm not too worried.

This except we never even attempted to give the Poly Vi Sol with either.

  • We used to do the Poly Vi Sol with Iron, but I got scared when I thought that it was staining his teeth before they erupted. We switched and we are still on Poly Vi Sol. My friend gives her kids Barlean's Omega 3 Swirl, but my Pedi keeps on saying that he doesn't need it.

  • Our pedi writes a Rx for their vitamins. We have never had a problem with their teeth being stained.

  • My Lo dr's hasn't mentioned anything about any vitamins. She does get enough milk (at times I think to much) and eats a variety of foods. I am going to have to ask the dr next time i take her in.

This. And they cost all of 5 dollars for 3 months worth. Our pedi prescribes chewables, too. Seems silly to purchase vitamin in a store.

our copay is $20. I can buy a huge bottle of gummies in BJs for $8. I'm not paying $20 for something Rx that I can pay less than 1/2 for in the store. I wish we had better insurance...

  • We are giving DD Poly-Vi-Sol w/Iron as per her pedi, but I just drop it in her milk in the morning and she drinks it right up.  I'm pretty sure my pedi told me to administer it that way...anyone else do it via milk?

  • Our pedi wrote a script for vitamins too. Were lucky because with our old insurance it was $5 and with our new one it's free. It's kind of a fruity flavor and DS actually likes it. I can't say about staining though because DS's first tooth isnt all the way in yet.

We do also. He's never even noticed it.

We get ours for free! They used to be 5 each.

I give B her Poly-Vi-Sol with Iron in her bedtime bottle. She gobbles it down.  I haven't noticed any teeth staining.  I wonder if the fact that it's diluted in the milk helps with preventing staining?
