I always started my older kids with bananas... but if she doesn't like it I would definitely go for a steak... then you could eat the leftovers. Win/win!
I read before starting ODD that if you start with veggies, they'll be more likely to develop a taste for them and not want to bypass them for the sweet stuff (fruit). I started both my girls with veggies, and they both love their veggies now! Might be coincidence, but I'll be doing the same with DS.
DH and I married 8 years.
Mom of three, stepmom of one.

I also heard this, I am not sure why I started with bananas in the past, but my kids do love their veggies still
We're starting with avocado. It's really hard to keep fresh if you make it at home though because once it's cut into, it goes bad fast and they only eat a little sliver of it at the time. He's eaten it once and he wants to eat too fast. We might try again in a little bit. I'm going with the "food is for fun before one" thing. We're skipping over cereal too...all it did was constipate him (rice and oatmeal) and he hasn't pooped the same since.
I am most likely going to wait until after the new year (5 months) but we will be starting with avocado. Next would be bananas, sweet potato, and yellow squash. I might throw peas into the mix but we will see how that goes.
If the pedi says its okay to start then okay but I thought it was safe to start 4mo+. I have been seeing a couple of moms on here that are already feeding their LOs meats and veggies so its a personal choice thing I guess.
You can never go wrong with bananas, right? Let us know how your baby girl does with it (:

You can freeze avocado. Just blend or mash it and freeze it into small sizes with a silicone ice tray. They don't take long to thaw out.

The gave a new study that babies that are breast fed would transition to solids better if started with banana/avocado/sweet potato because bm is sweet and it's more palatable. I started with veggies with my daughter and she still struggles with veggies, mainly depending on what it is

The pedi gave us the okay. shes doubled her birth weight.
Ours did too once he's four months but also said a lot of moms like to wait until six months. He's very pro bf. I'd like to hold out until six months as long as he's as satisfied with milk as he is. I'm slightly tempted to start him for longer sleep stretches but he's doing that anyway and that's just a myth, apparently. I was just curious.
I started DS1 on avocado, then sweet potatoes, squash, and bananas. After he'd tried several veggies and fruits, we introduced oatmeal; we never fed him any rice cereal. He didn't start solids until 6 months.
Re: I can start solids.. What to start with?
I'm going to try avocado at Christmas (she'll be ~4.5mo) But if she doesn't really take to it then I'm going to wait a month or two and try again.
