If your husband has had one what was his experience like? Recovery time? Do you just call your PCP and tell them you want one and they refer you out to a surgeon?
DH had his done this year. He called his PCP, and they referred him to an urologist who did the procedure. He was back to work within a week. I think he had it done on a Wed or Thursday, went back to work on Monday. He was still sore, but he made it through no problem. It took about 2 weeks for him to be pain free, if I remember correctly, but I could be totally off.
He says it was something he never wanted to go through again, but that it was worth it in the long run.

DH had a vasectomy about 3 years ago. At his physical he asked his PCP and got a referral.
He got it done on a Friday morning and was back at work on Monday. On Friday and Saturday, he spent most of the day in bed icing. By Sunday, he seemed to be mostly back to normal, just a little sore.
DH had a pretty good experience (as good as it can be). He was sore for two or three weeks after, but it wasn't horrible. He's a doctor himself, so he was able to ask around about urologists and find the one who came most recommended.
H had it done 3 years ago. He asked his PCP and they referred him to a urologist who did the procedure. He had it done on a Thursday morning and was back to work Monday. He has a desk job though. H spent Thursday and Friday icing. Then he took it easy the rest of the weekend. He was a little sore for a week or so but nothing too bad.
DH had it done and the recovery took maybe a day or two. He didn't really even use the pain meds. My brother went for a run the next day. It's not a huge deal (well in comparison to having a baby)
The only restrictions after a vasectomy are to rest for a couple days and no heavy lifting for 3-5days. Oh, and icing (bag of peas) to the area to prevent swelling.
Your DH can have it done on Fri and be back to work Mon. I was a RN at a urology practice and routinely assisted in the procedures. They can give him a Xanax to relax him pre procedure.
The busiest weekend to get vasectomies= MAC championshiop weekend. This way men can lay on the couch all weekend watching sports.
And...its done relatively quick. If you have a good doc, he can be in and out in 30 min.
Mine had one 4 years ago. It wasn't all that bad. The actual procedure was around 30 minutes, right in the urologists office. Our insurance didn't require a referral at that time, so he just called the office directly. We had to do a consult first (paper work, talked about the procedure, etc) and then he had it the next week.
He mostly complained for about 2 days. He was sore. Had to ice the area. But, he got it done on a Friday and was back to work Monday. He just took some OTC pills for the soreness for 2 days.
We got the number to a urologist from my OB. He had his on a Friday and was back at work on Monday. However, it didn't hurt that bad so he didn't ice it. Big mistake. His balls swelled to the size of a football by the end of the weekend. When he went back to work it looked like he was hung like a porn star based on the swelled up package.

Awesome, thank you!
DH has never had surgery or anything before so even though he's 100% on board with the decision I know he's a bit nervous. In fact, as soon as we had our first ultrasound on Monday on the way home he said, "so when should we make birth control permanent?" LOL

Thanks all! Sounds like it won't be too difficult of a recovery.
DH is on his feet all day at work so I'm wondering if he'll need a little extra time off, but I suppose it will be a wait and see approach
