Major separation anxiety and stranger anxiety

Is anyone else dealing with separation anxiety and stranger anxiety? If I set dd down to just walk 10 feet away in direct sight she freaks out! She also screams bloody murder when strangers come in her daycare room. Strangely she was totally AOK with her pedi at our visit Friday. Any tips for dealing with all this anxiety? My back is killing me from having to literally carry her everywhere.

Re: Major separation anxiety and stranger anxiety

  • we've been having a little separation anxt lately.. nothing major but he definitely needs more attention at times.  I think part of it is just tireness and fussy because of his teeth.  He does seem to have a problem with "squeaky" women ... you know when women get all high pitched and cooey over babies..but other than that he is for the most part fine with people.  Sometimes he gets a pouty face on, but that is usually with people even we find annoying haha

  • Separation anxiety is starting to show up a little bit here. It shows up the most when we are around others and they instantly start interacting with DD. If they somewhat ignore her, and let her study them she's more okay with them.

Now if I set DD down and step away from her she is instantly saying mamama, and it breaks my heart, but my back is killing me. However, if the dog walks away from her she says mamama, so I'm thinking she doesn't understand what she's saying yet, or the dog and I resemble each other?

  • DS is starting this too. If I'm home, he has to be in the same room with me, or he loses it, although he doesn't need to be held/played with all the time - last Wednesday, I brought his foam playmat and toys into the kitchen and he played on the floor for a good hour while I prepped items for TG dinner. One of my friends carts her daughter and all her toys from room to room in a large laundry basket.

Hilarious. I found myself wheeling dd around in her high chair this weekend as I moved around the main level. If I had a sturdy enough laundry basket I would totally do that instead!

I read that it takes quite a while for them to connect mama to the person mama.  It said that your reaction will help solidify that connection so I always act super excited when dd says mamma.  I point to myself and repeat mamma then point at dd and say her name.  It KILLS DH that she never babbles dada..
