Hi, my daughter is 21 (will be 22 when my baby is born) and I am pregnant with my second. I am sure so many things have changed. Please let me know any advise you may have, including info on what the MUST have items are these days.
i'm not sure what baby stuff was like 22 years ago, but some "rules" have changed.
- baby should be placed on their backs for sleep at night
- wait to introduce solids closer to 6 months old
and then items wise, we kept things pretty simple. we loved the miracle blanket for swaddling. get a good white noise machine (or download a white noise app on your smartphone/ipod touch) to play at night. a humidifier and frida snot sucker helped with congestion.
Baby Bargains is a good comprehensive guide that helps you narrow down all of the gear plus safety recommendations. In addition to above, I think maybe vitamin/supplement advice has changed & now they recommend car seats to be rear facing until at least 2 years (we plan on being RF until he outgrows the height/weight limits).
We are big fans of modern cloth diapers. They are so much easier than the old type and can save you a ton of money. I would just start watching/reading the various boards, and you will learn a lot here.
DS born 8/2010 - preliminary stages of SN int'l adoption - fur mama to 2 shelter dogs; cloth diapering, babywearing, EBFing mama
