Besides pharamacies (CVS, etc) where can you get the flu shot? The only ones I've ever gotten were at my college's health center and obviously that was a few years ago. Can I just call my PCP and have one?
Also, did anyone's OB recommend waiting til the 2nd tri to get one? Mine did, but that's the end of December for me. I feel like we're well into flu season by then.
Re: Potentially stupid ? about the flu shot
A lot of times you can go to your local health department, and I've seen them at large events too (think: holiday markets at convention/community centers etc) and I would also check Red Cross and local fire departments...place like that. I went to a drug store and they had the preservative free one in stock.
My OB told me to go ahead and get mine.
She may be telling you that (ask her, don't take my word for it) because it will last longer into flu season if you get it later. You have to kind of play your cards right...not too early and not too late. This is what I was told when we both got our shots when DH was in chemo...the protection wears off after a while so you shouldn't waste it in months when the flu isn't going around yet.
I went to my local health department because they were the only place around that still had the preservative free kind. I would have gotten it at my PCP or OB office if they had any left. Under the new health reforms they should be covered 100% as preventative care. I would call the PCP or OB first but the health department was easy and cheap ($25) so that's always an option.
Just make sure you ask for the preservative free kind. It doesn't have the mercury in it.

you're better off risking getting natural flu then injecting neurotoxins, heavy metals and mutated virus directly into your bloodstream while carrying a fetus. the flu shot "works" less then 1% of the time, anyways. better idea- get some extra vitamin c and vitamin d, wash your hands properly, eat well around around. take care of your body and it will take care of you.
I've only had the flu once in my life, and it was when my mom was duped into getting me a flu shot. ><
also they have you wait till the second trimester, generally, because before that point you are even more likely to lose your pregnancy from the vaccine. the toxins do not fair well with fetal health.
I appreciate the difference of opinion but the CDC says the exact opposite. I'm curious what your source is.
for which part?
I watch statistics each year, I study vaccine injuries and effects, I train with a naturopath/chiropractor who has done over a decade of independent vaccine study. experience, research, not trusting Big Pharma sources.
Linking it to miscarriage, it being more dangerous than the flu itself or why they tell you to wait to get it.
First, I didn't ask for any opinions on whether or not to get the flu shot. My question was where can I get one. So thanks for ignoring my question and going ahead with your own agenda.
Second, the CDC has complied an extensive battery of research on getting the flu shot during pregnancy and found no evidence of any harm to the fetus. So, I'd really like to know where you're getting your info.
Third, as for your assertion that the flu shot works only 1% of the time, I'm calling b.s. Where's the source for that?
She didn't ask your opinion about whether or not to get it. She asked WHERE she could get it.
People seriously need to stop spewing their "gospel truths".

Well that's helpful. And I have done my research, thank you very much. Maybe you'll think next time before you insert your opinion when it isn't asked for.
Yeah...a chiropractor also told us that my husband's cancer could have been cured by cracking his back and that he could've skipped chemo. We'll take our chances with modern medicine--including a flu shot during pregnancy-- although I do respectfully believe others can do what they want. I just wish it were conveyed in a more responsible way (i.e. empirical evidence, controlled environments, over many years) before being relayed as hard truth.
Exactly.
Relevant:
I think what one PP said about waiting because the shot lasts longer is true, but I would think your doctor wouldn't wait too much longer because we're pretty well into flu season.
I know that the little clinic inside my local grocery store gives out flu shots.
100% agree.
I've decided not to go to my midwives, I think I'm just going to go to a chiropractor for this pregnancy.
Well at least your LO will have some awesome hair when they come outta there!
ABSOLUTELY effin' this. I think I love you. I wouldn't bother to address these things except that I'm terrified that people who don't know any better will read this stuff and believe it.
Nora, what planet do you live on?? NO ONE here asked for you to come here and spout your agenda. Natural news is NOT a reliable source, and neither is "independent research" by a chiropractor. I'm all for questioning Big Pharma, but data is data and what you're spouting is NOT. Working in the medical field, I've seen plenty of people injured and harmed by chiropractors who practice "medical care" far beyond their capacities and training. They are NOT trained or certified to know anything about vaccines, pregnancy or general medical conditions.
FFS. ::eyeroll::
You have one thing right--there's no point spewing your crap when we are so unwilling to believe your CRAP. Follow your own advice.
This is all false. Inactivated vaccines can't cause the flu because the virus is dead. It does take two weeks to build immunity to the virus so if you come in contact with someone who has the virus you can still get it. And if you are worried about "toxins" they make a preservative free version!
