Ok..I have had it pretty easy this whole pregnancy as far as controlling my #s with insulin. I was diagnosed at 6 weeks, and although I've had to adjust my insulin doses slightly as I've progressed, I've not had more than a few high readings (random high readings, as they dr calls them). My meal-time levels are still where they need to be, however, for the past 3 weeks, I just CANNOT get my fasting #s to stay under 95. They used to be consistently in the mid 80s with a few lower 90s, but now I'm doing good just to get one under 95. We keep upping my insulin (I started at 47 units, and have been upping it a unit every couple of nights). I have tried altering my night-time snack (a tall glass of 1% milk with no-sugar added nestle powder used to be my tried-and-true method) to add more protein (a tbsp of lower sugar pb), more protein and carbs (a low carb tortilla w/cheese), and more carbs (several different foods). I can get a night or two of success, but then I'm back to being high again. I saw my GD counselor last week, and all she did was tell me I could up my insulin...but nothing I am doing seems to be working. I wash my hands before I test, and I make sure to never go more than 8 hrs between snacking and testing. Any suggestions for things I may not have tried? I know I don't have much longer, but I haven't been busting my butt for 7.5 months just to cause LO harm at the end with fasting #s that just won't cooperate. Grrrr.

Just to piggyback on PPs comment about what you're eating - my acupuncturist also told me that both wheat and dairy cause spikes in your blood sugar. We don't pay much attention because usually we are still in range when we test after having eaten them but ultimately those spikes could start to mess with your fasting numbers. She suggests eating quinoa or millet instead of wheat and avoiding dairy (except for cultured dairy like yogurt).
Good luck and hang in there. You are so close!!
