July 2013 Moms

I have a love/hate relationship with this time of the year...

As much as I love the holidays and the togetherness and traditions...it is doing some damage on our bank account.  I run an in-home childcare (after teaching for several years, my DH and I decided I should stay at home and do this since paying for childcare for our 3 was astronomical...plus I always wanted to stay home with our kids).  Anyway, with the holidays disrupting care schedules it's also making my income sparse.  So the financial stress of the season plus I'm not feeling pg symptoms today (I'd actually rather feel sick or something to know the pregnancy is thriving)...I am a MESS! :'(

  • Could you charge some kind of reduced holiday/vacation fee to hold the space?

My friend's mom has in-home care and she does that.

I agree with this. My cousin does her own in home daycare and the parents pay a smaller fee to hold their child's spot (I think it's 30%). That way she's not completely out the money and the parents know the spot won't be given up.

  • My home daycare provider gets paid holidays, 2 paid weeks of vacation plus gets paid for any days my kids are sick or we are on vacation. That is very standard around here. If you aren't doing these, I would probably start including that in your contract.
