Does anyone else spin while pregnant and if so, how far into your pregnancy did you spin before you had to stop and couldnt do it anymore?
Any tips?
Last pregnancy, was spinning up until the week I had LO. Your knees start to go out to the side a bit so you don't knee your belly and hovering pretty much goes away, but other than, I was fine up until the end. I'm still doing it this pregnancy, just not as often as I'm running more now. When your knees start going out to the side, just move your resistance down a bit so you don't hurt your knees... that's my only advice.
I started spinning a few months before I found out I was pregnant and became addicted- love it! I was convinced I would be able to keep it up through my whole pregnancy, especially after I powered through my awful m/s in 1st tri. I found that by 20 weeks I had a lot of cramping in my lower stomach, felt like I was going to pee my pants every time I did a sprint and just was having a more difficult time. Now at 24 weeks I end up having cramping/contracting for about an hour after my class- I'm not terrible uncomfortable during the actual class but I can tell my body is not pleased with me afterward.
I think it just depends on your fitness level and your body- with this being my 3rd pregnancy in 4 years my body is feeling the aches and pains of pregnancy MUCH earlier on. I think had I been spinning in my 1st pregnancy I could have lasted longer. My spinning instructor said she taught up until the week she had her baby so its definitely possible. Just listen to your body, modify as needed (I would just go up into 2 or 3 and run instead of doing a sprint with the rest of the class). I would definitely tell your instructor you are pregnant and ask for modifications as needed- mine were more than happy to oblige. Have fun!
I am 38+ weeks and was there this morning! I definitely get some braxton hicks from all the tummy bumping (even with my handle bars up high) but I feel great even going pretty hard. I worked out until I went into labor with my 1st son (at 40 weeks exactly) and was so happy that I did so. Good luck!
Still spinning with no problem. The one thing I have noticed is that I now find the bike seats uncomfortable. I had to buy a gel cushioned seat b/c it bothered me so much.
I had a gym membership last time-- I did spinning until the end. I started having to stop getting up off the saddle or going into 3rd position at 35-36 weeks maybe, and soon after that, I had to leave early because too much time on the saddle made my pregnant butt really sore.
This time, I did not have a gym membership. My last bike ride was in late October... so maybe 32 weeks. My bike's handle bars can't be raised any further.
