Toddlers: 24 Months+

all of the sudden super duper clingy

My 25 month old dauther has just started to be so extra than normal clingy- she has always preferred me BUT I cannot even leave the room now- she screams when its just her and daddy- you have to get her distracted and if she stays distracted and happy then she is fine but if she notices I am gone and isnt happy then here come the tears.

She was even like this over the holidays with her grandma and my sister, who she loves- when they first got here she was happy and wanted to be with them all the time then started to be clingy again.  The only person I can leave her with is our babysitter- and she only watches her when we go out which is not that often :(

The only thing I can think of that has happened is that she got "sick" for the first time last week- a double ear infection and she is battling a cough that wont go away.  She held me so tight at the doctors and she got annoyed after awhile when the doctor was listening to her breath-

Like right now she is downstairs playing with daddy because he has her happy and they are doing things- but next time she sees me and I dont take her with me then it starts all over again.

I hope this is a phase.

Re: all of the sudden super duper clingy

  • yeah my girl didn't really have any separation issues till right after 2 and then it was like we had to be velcro-ed together. :) i just made to sure to tell myself "this too shall pass" and give her extra snuggles whenever i could. it took about a month or two but it passed. she still prefers me and will ask that i do things for her with dad right next to her but it's not so bad now. every kid is different of course and her sickness probably doesn't help but yes, it's most likely just a phase.

  • my guess would be because she's a little sick. that and a phase too. my son goes through that every now and again.mostly when he's not feeling good.
