Hi everyone,
I'm looking for ideas for a winter coat. We live the northeast so I've been searching for a ski-type maternity coat (not to be used for skiing of course), because I want something that's warm, covers well, and is water resistant. We're due in the beginning of march so I'll need something to get me through the entire winter season. I've thought about picking up a normal ski jacket just in a larger size to accommodate a growing bump but at 5 feet tall, I fear the arms will be way too long and while I'm somewhat crafty with my sewing machine, that is out of my league.
Any ideas? The trendy wool trench or pea coat ones I've seen are nice but they just won't work for what I need.
Thanks!!
Re: Ideas for a winter coat?
I can't wear this jacket now because of my bump though. I can't see a size up working for long between still growing belly and having a big chest. I have a thick Sherpa lined hooded outdoor sweatshirt from Gander Mountain that is very warm and still fits. Maybe a thick plushy jacket with give could also be an option. Most jackets don't have any.
I too live in New England so a cape or wool coat just wasn't going to cut it. I got this same coat earlier in the season and LOVE it. It's very warm and going to be perfect for our first snow this week. I ordered it in my normal size which fits me the way it should in my non-pregger areas and has good room for my growing belly too to last me through the winter. I highly recommend it.

Thank you all for your help!!
I have a few gift cards to use so I might try to find a larger size with those Velcro adjustable cuffs, and that one from old navy looks nice as well
Thanks again!!
I got the same one just without the belt. I like that it has side zippers to expand for baby. I'm also short (few inches over 5'). My Old Navy stores have an itty bitty maternity section and I don't like buying clothes without being able to try them on because of my proportions.
I bought my coat at Burlington coat factory. Really reasonable and its a ski/active coat. Were going to keystone in December on vacation. Obviously I'm not skiing either but I wanted a coat like u for the same reasons.
I just bought a cheap zip up maternity fleece, and wore that under my regular winter coat, with the top 2 buttons buttoned. I'm doing the same this time around. I live in Chicago where it's super cold, and this was more than okay (and on cold days I'd wear a hat, scarf, etc.). I was never cold.
ETA: There is no way a regular coat a size larger (even 2) would have accommodated my bump at the end.
