3rd Trimester

Labor close? Help.

This is my first pregnancy, and I'll be 38 weeks tomorrow.

I went on Friday to my doctor appt, and they said I was 2-3 cm dilated and 70% effaced. I know people can be dilated forever. But yesterday, I started feeling a lot more lower back pain and pressure on my pelvic bone. This is TMI just to warn some of you, I've also been getting white discharge leakage (but my mom just says that means I'm softening up) and yesterday I had a lot of BMs. But i'm not sure what to expect since this is my first pregnancy.

  • N one can tell you if labor is close.  Sorry!

  • Could be soon, could be weeks.  :(  I had a lot of pelvic pain, some lower back pain, mildly increasing discharge, and increased, softer BMs all this last week.  (The worst of the pelvic pain lasted about 12 hours - still hits in smaller, milder doses.  Just as a warning.)  DS feels like he's lower, people are no longer assuming it's twins, and the pelvic pain isn't impeding movement much anymore.  DS has also gotten all hyper - hope he turns, but doesn't flip (head down, but sunny-side-up).  39+2 here.

Diarrhea is a better sign that labor is imminent than just more BMs.  It's one of my "call the midwife now" indicators.

  • Call your doctor, tell em whats been going on over the weekend, and they will let you know what you should do. They might want to see you and give you a check, or they might tell you to go to L&D, or they might tell you to stay where you are till you have contractions 5 minutes apart. But I would def call.

  • Honestly, I wouldn't even call. You're probably experiencing pre labor. It could mean active labor is right around the corner or it could mean weeks more of cramps, discharge, back pain, and contrax. Just know that they're helping getting your body ready- you're already 1/3 of the way there! Just allow your body to do it's thing and hopefully it will mean a shorter active labor for you :)

  • This has been me since week 38 and I am now 10 days past my EDD and still no baby.

Sorry, don't get your hopes up! It all sounds very normal IMO which is the best news.
  • I had the same situation and doctor thought I would deliver early. As previous posters said its not a guarantee of anything. Now I'm looking at an induction today. Hope everything works out. Best of luck!
