TTC After a Loss

BFN, but some "good" news anyway

Another BFN, which depressed the hell out of me, but it has now been enough cycles (and AF due Wed) that my OB agreed to see me tomorrow to discuss my options- usually the wait to see her is a month or longer, so I'm thrilled we might be able to start something right away!

I don't even know what to ask about-- she prefers to go on what you are interested in, but I don't even know what to start the discussion on-- based on charting, I think my problem is progesterone, but won't she have to do a test or something to confirm that?

Re: BFN, but some "good" news anyway

  • I have to admit I'm hoping she skips really discussing the m/c-- if she tells me that it's proof I "can" get preg, I may slug her-- it's true, but I don't want to hear it.

  • I'm sorry for the BFN, but I'm glad that you are going to see your Dr. Hopefully you can get some answers soon!

  • I'm sorry for your BFN.  I would start with bringing your charts and discussing them with her.  Are you going to try and get a referral to an RE?

  • Sorry about the BFN.  Can you remind me quickly about your history?  It will help me and the other ladies here with sharing our relevant experiences and give you advice as to what to ask your doctor.

Also, it's helpful to include some of that history in your siggy as well for exactly this reason, if that's something you're interested in.

    PAIF/SAIF, PGAL/PAL welcome.

  • Thanks, but I don't have much history to put in my siggy-- I got KU with my daughter on our wedding night, so no known problems back then- we were TTA until Mayish, then started really trying this June-- no luck until last month, when I got a BFP and then lost the baby a week later.

My OB isn't one to see people unless it's been x number of months- when I had called her last month to talk about the same thing, it was going to be a month long wait. After the m/c, she was super clear with me that you are more fertile afterwards and I should be able to get KU right away-- this month's BFN did away with that theory. I'm guessing that's why she squeezed me in for an appointment tomorrow.

I've never been on anything but some B6 to try to lengthen my luteal phases (they were about 9 days, now 11). I seem to ovulate fine based on temps, OPKs, and CM- I used to have that perfect 28 day cycle with O on day 14- but while breastfeeding, I was averaging 23 day cycles with O anywhere from day 10 to day 15. We weaned 2 months ago. I've always had extremely painful cycles, but no one has ever said there was anything strange about it.

DD was a vaginal birth-- the only problem was that I wasn't dilating, and I had marginal placenta previa until 30 weeks. So as far as I know, no damage from that.

Thanks for filling me in.  I'm very sorry for your loss, and I hope you have luck soon.  I have to ask though...why do you feel the need to see your OB?  Are you looking into testing or treatment?  Are you over 35?  I'm just not really sure why you wouldn't keep trying on your own at this point.  TTC is frustrating, but I don't see any cause for alarm in your case (from what you've told me here).

    PAIF/SAIF, PGAL/PAL welcome.

  • sorry I didn't get to respond to this yesterday and you might not see it now but I'll respond anyway-

I want to see my OB to check anything that's easily checkable- I don't want to go another 5 months and then find out there was some little blockage or something the whole time

also, we are on a bit of a time crunch-- DH will leave sometime over the summer for 6 months of job training in Georgia (we live in NY)- we can't go with him- so the longer it takes me to get KU, the worse the position we will be in-- ideally he will still be here for the first tri so he can help me with DD if I get super sick, but at worst case, if I don't get KU by the time he leaves, we are out for another 6 months, which I don't think I can handle emotionally

    hope that explains it!
