I know I'm not the only one here who uses these but I thought I'd start a thread to explain them.
This sounds ridiculous. I know that because it sounded ridiculous to me once as well.
Baltic Amber is a resin and when it is warmed up (such as by being against skin) it releases succinic acid which is a natural analgesic.
So if you buy a Baltic Amber teething necklace and put it on your kid, it can help with teething pain. Good ones are double knotted between each bead so that if it breaks there won't be beads everywhere, and supposedly they are each so small they don't pose a choking hazard.
When I first told DH about them he laughed a LOT and said that was crazy. Then DS started teething and our high needs baby got far needier still...and DH said, "ANYTHING YOU CAN DO!" so I got one. That was when DS was 2 months old and he is still wearing it.
Officially you aren't supposed to let your LO sleep with it on, and when DS was little I tried to stick to that. However, babies nap so much that he'd fall asleep with it be on and I'd freak out...but then he'd be fine. So then I put it around my neck and pulled...it can be uncomfortable but there is no way a baby could strangle or something from sleeping with a teething necklace on. That's my opinion for sure, but since it stressed me out at first I figured I'd share.
DD has one on as well now. She has always been a calm baby but when teething hit she started screaming out in pain. She'd have unconsolable periods where it seemed like the world was ending. That lasted about a week while we could order a necklace for her. It was an immediate change.
I've ordered from Inspired by Finn and then I needed DD's ASAP so I got her this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004EFC6MC/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
Anyway, just thought I'd share.
Re: PSA: Baltic Amber teething necklace
We keep DS's on him because it seems to help soothe him. It should help with any pain. DS is VERY sensitive to pain (and everything) so we've still needed to use tylenol and teething tabs/gel and such for different issues, but I've experienced it for him with and without his necklace and it is a big difference.
I got ours from Inspired by Finn when they were on babysteals. I think hers is sized 11 to 12 inches. The 10 to 11 inch one would have fit, but I wanted a bit of room to grow b/c she is a big kid. PS Inspired by Finn has a cyber Monday sale for 24 hours, discount code: OneDaySale.
DD1 - july 2008
DD2 - may 2010
DS - sept 2012
Any thoughts on whether a bracelet/anklet would be as helpful as a necklace?
ETA Apparently (according to the description on Kelly's Closet) they work better with two bracelets, but they work best as necklaces, because it's closer to the pain source.
^ditto
Yeah I saw that too but I wanted to use my Prime shipping to get it fast. I looked up how to test for real amber and did the test when I got it. It is real. I'd definitely test to make sure it isn't plastic, though.
I prefer Inspired by Finn for sure. More options.
Maybe amazon fixed the problem
Maybe the reviewers were speshul. Good to know!
