So, how awkward is it to put a breast pump on a registry? I'm not concerned about the me- embarrassment factor, more so about how other people will feel while scrolling through and BAM! Boobie pump.
Every shower I have been to has a breast pump on the registry. I don't think its weird at all. Its an expensive item but you never know, someone might by it for you. I put a $300 Swarovski frame on my wedding registry so I can use my completion discount to buy it and someone actually bought it for me. If anything you can buy it yourself with the completion coupon and save money!
I don't think it's weird at all and might be something several people (think aunts) might want to go in on together. It's a necessary item and if people think it's weird, that's their problem. Since most people buying from your registry are probably women, they shouldn't be weirded out by that. I say go for it. Embrace the boobie pump!

I agree! I had a few people go in on bigger items (though I never thought to register for a breast pump, I got a cheap manual one as an afterthought after DD was born!). I put a manual one on my registry because I don't foresee needing more than what I did last time. It never hurts to put it on, though, cuz you just never know!
I don't think it's weird. Breasts are for feeding babies and breast pumps help facilitate that. I really don't understand why it would make anyone uncomfortable to see a pump on a baby registry.
I figure 99% of the people out shopping for me off my registry will be women. 80% of those are moms already and know what is needed and not. I doubt they think twice about it.
I've seen them on some registries I've shopped off recently and it didn't bug me, I just moved right past cause it was WAY outta my gift budget LOL.
I feel like breast pumps have been around long enough (my grandma has my great-grandma's manual one somewhere in the attic!) that people (women especially), won't scroll through and go: WHOA!! when they see it. You are having a baby. You will likely use a breast pump often. It is normal.
I've been reading that breast pumps will be covered by most insurance policies starting in 2013, if not before. I'm waiting until the first of the year to call and figure out exactly what the deal on that is, but you might want to look into that before you or someone else spends money on a pump that could be spent on other stuff.

I can't imagine ever thinking this is weird. In fact, i think it is weird that people think it is weird!
I'd add it -- nobody has to buy it for you, but at least you'll get a completion discount for having it on your registry.
