What strategies did you use to wean your LO off their MOTN feeding? During the day he gets 30 35 oz and 2 meals. The middle of the night feeding started about a month ago after 4.5 months of STTN. ANy thoughts? Thanks!!
our pedi told me to put him down for the night when he is awake. That really helped us. He also said if lo wakes up not to go in, and if I have to go in just calm him. Not to feed him.
We did a slow weaning that worked great. Figure out about what time yourLO usually wakes to eat and go in and get him up to eat one hour earlier than that. The first night start with the amount he usually eats, then do one ounce less each night until it's only an ounce. Then stop doing it.
Funny you brought this up! I've been going back and forth on this with a good friend and we have similar views, even though I know in a pedi's eyes, this particular view are very wrong!
DS is a very inconstant sleeper. Some nights he'll wake up 3 times, some nights 7/8 times. Each time, I nurse him back to sleep. The second he wakes up, he is screaming. The ONLY way to get him to go back to sleep is nursing him or giving him a bottle. I have no idea what to do here...

I have no desire to! Lucas is skinny and if he's hungry he's hungry it's only a short time in their life that they wake at night I can deal.
Did you try to wean any of your children If not, did they end up weaning themselves? I'm also in the boat of "if that's what he wants, thats what he gets!" but I am worried about setting DS up with unhealthy sleep habits. You've got the experience! I would love to hear! (I think you're slowly becoming my mentor! haha!)

This is exactly how I feel!! I want to do whatever he needs but I have friends who allowed the children to rule the house, especially about bed time, and the girls still don't sleep we'll at 3.5 and 7! I am worried about setting up a bad habit. Last night he was up, but not hungry which confirms my thought that its a habit. He's also a chubster, so while I have no doubt he could be hungry, weight is not a worry! :. Thanks for all your help!
My oldest who's 8 now has slept very well since 9months, by two I'd put him to bed awake and he'd go to sleep. We did have about a week of tears around two to get to that point, before that I'd snuggle him to sleep.
My middle who is two now has always been an awful sleeper and still wakes up once a night but I can go lay him back down and he'll go back to sleep but he nursed at least three times a night until a year. But he was in the 90 for hight and 15 for weight so he need the calories. But since about 14 months I'd put him to bed awake with his binki and banket and he'd go to sleep no problems.
My lo is 90 for height too and 15 for weight and wakes to eat at 2,46 if I haven't fed him every two hours during the day. If I have he only wakes at 4 the 7 for the day, so I know he's hungry when he wakes. He needs the calories so I feed him.
I love my boys and will spoil them with some things like nigh feedings, extra cuddles and maybe too much tv some days : BUT they do not rule my home. We have no cabinet locks, they are taught to stay out. We have diner rules that everyone must follow, and my kids know how to mind. It's a lot of work but I have found a balance that works for us.
We do a dream feed just before we go to bed. Usually between 10-11. Just by doing this he sleeps till 6-7. We tried it a few times then stopped and started back up because we realized it was making a difference. Good luck!
We tank out little one up before bed. She nurses at 5pm, a bottle at 6pm, and then I nurse and put her to bed at 7pm. She can sleep till sometime after 4 am on this system for us.
I read if they are waking sporadically it is out of hunger, if they are waking at a consistent time it is out of habit.

I hadn't heard this. I took LO to the pedi for his 6 month appt yesterday, and the pedi tried to argue that he didn't NEED to eat in the motn. I disagreed, saying that he often doesn't eat well from a bottle during the day and makes up for it once I get home and through the night. But his 3am feed (generally between 2-3:30 he wakes up), he always seems VERY hungry and nurses for 15-20 minutes at a very steady pace. Other times when he wakes up, he can be soothed back to sleep fairly easily.
