new here... 14 mnths wont sleep alone! advice please...

Hello everyone! I am new to the bump and I think this board will be of good use to me... we are a no bottle, breastfeeding, co sleeping baby led family! this wasnt our original plan but we fell into it and it worked for us... until now! My lo is 14 months and has been sharing our bed basically since newborn. I am really ready for her to sleep alone, but upon trying it the only way to get her to sleep is to rock her and then put her in her crib, and she wakes up in a couple hours SCREAMING CRYING. the only way to get her back to sleep is to put her in bed with me. We are in the process of weaning and as of the last two days are down to just bedtime nursing, which is great and I think will help. Basically i just wake up in the middle of the night and am too tired to deal with it so i give in. does anyone have any experience with  this or any ideas for getting her to sleep alone without doing cry it out? we have a good bedtime routine that has been the same for 7 months. she takes 1 nap a day if that makes a difference, bedtime is about 8 pm and she wakes up around 730 am. looking forward to the replies!

  • I'd either move the crib into your room or set up a bed beside her crib in her room for a few days so she's not waking up alone. Get her used to the crib first before you get her used to sleeping alone.

This. She probably cries like that because she is afraid. That's a big change for a little kid. Could you sidecar the crib next to your bed for a few nights, then keep the crib in your room but away from your bed for a while? I agree that she needs to feel secure where she is sleeping before she will happily sleep there alone. I would expect it to take a couple to a few weeks as well. Good luck!

  • We've recently moved DD out of her crib and onto a twin mattress on the floor in her room. I find it easier to get her back to sleep by lying next to her but sometimes I fall asleep with her there. This way she falls asleep where she is going to stay asleep.

Oh and we've put a cuddly toy who has a tshirt DH has worn with her. It's still not 100% great but it's things you can try.
