Not an good eater?

Anyone else have kids not interested in food? Edison just hit 18 lbs and just could care less about eating most of the time. There are certain foods he does eat better than others, but most of the time he will eat maybe a few noodles, a green bean and he's done. He was never big on most baby foods either.

He's still on formula and the Dr's are fine with that, we are about to introduce more milk to him, but he really doesn't seem to want it either.

Just curious if anyone else has babies that don't eat a lot.

Re: Not an good eater?

  • Yeah I think this is pretty normal at this age.  Tilly's eating has certainly slowed down.  They're just not putting on weight at the rate they used to, which is normal and desirable.

  • Same here! Alastair will eat some things better than others but generally it's really not a lot and I am always surprised that he is not hungry.

  • Gator's goes in phases. There are some days she only will eat soup. There are some days she only wants soft foods. Heaven forbid you cut any of her food up for her, she won't eat it. I can't really tell if its because of her teeth or not. But I have noticed she doesn't eat a lot and goes for really soft foods before a tooth pokes through. Currently she is on a carb load.....waffles, crackers, bread, pancakes are the only thing she wants to eat. Although I did manage to get her to eat a fried egg last night. Makes meal planning hard!

  • I forgot to add that Gator is still on formula as well. After a week trying cows milk, we put her back on formula. But I try not to offer it very much so she doesn't get full off of that and eats more food. I don't offer it to her until she has been eating for awhile.

  • My oldest still doesn't eat a variety of foods and has probably had like 3 bites of red meat in his entire life. He's starting to get better but for a long time I made him fruit and veggie smoothies with protein powder and he takes vitamins. He will go all day without eating rather than eat certain foods. He's thin but not underweight and is totally healthy, I just have to be more mindful of nutritional facts. You can give him toddler formula and if you're really concerned meet with the pedi to discuss what his actual nutrition needs are and find ways to meet those goals. It takes more meal planning but isn't hard to adjust to.
  • I think DD may be a freak then. She would have eaten her weight in tortellini last night if I would have let her. She eats a good-size serving of anything I put in front of her, except veggies. For example, yesterday she ate:

--cheerios/puffs/freeze-dried fruit mix with 8 oz of milk-7:30am

--4 oz of greek yogurt with 1/2 pouch of mixed fruit-10am

    --2 crackers, 2 cubes of cheese, 1 pretzel stick-church coffee hour 12:00pm

--1/2 grilled cheese and ham sandwich (ate 3/4), 1/2 apple, 6 oz milk-12:45

    --handful of goldfish-2:30pm

    --8 oz milk-4:30

--a generous serving of tortellini and peas (hidden)-6:15pm

Maybe we are gearing up for another growth spurt, hopefully.
