Babies are here at 29 weeks, Very Long

I'm more of a lurker than a poster on the board but I wanted to share my experience in case it might help anyone  I posted this on babycenter as well. I had a pretty uneventful pregnancy with fraternal boy/girl twins. We found out at 20 weeks that baby a, Jack had a 2 vessel cord and was measuring smaller than his sister Emma. My maternal fetal medicine doctor instructed me to increase my protein and calcium intake. So I did by drinking protein shakes and taking calcium supplements. I was put on modified bed rest last Friday due to my cervix softening and braxton hicks contractions. Everything was going smoothly until Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning. When I went to the bathroom at 2am there was a white pinkish discharge which was unusual. I had a doctor's appointment scheduled for 9:00 Wednesday morning so I figured I would ask her about it in the morning. I pretty much had to pee every hour and the discharge was still there. At 6 I when I wiped it was bright red and I noticed 2 blood
clots in the toilet. I knew something was not right but still decided to wait. I took a shower and tried googling third trimester bleeding and read some stuff on premature labor. I started having strong contractions around 7 and started timing them. They started about 4 minutes apart and quickly went to 2 minutes. I called my doctor to see what they wanted me to do. He told me to go on down to labor and delivery. We left our house at 8, we had to wait on my husband's mom to come stay with our 2 year old. We live about 30 minutes away from
the hospital. During the car ride the contractions got a lot worse and I had a ton of pressure pushing down. I didn't want to scare my husband so I just told him to drive fast. I really thought I was going to have the babies in the car. We got to the hospital about 8:35 and went up to triage. I told them I have to go to the bathroom and as soon as I sat down I heard a plop. I freaked out thinking I had Jack in the toilet. As soon as I stood up to check my water broke. I found out the sound I heard had something to do with my water breaking. I got in a hospital gown and got into the bed. A nurse checked.the fluid and confirmed my water broke. She explained that did not mean I would have them today. She went to get the monitor to hook me up. She was trying to get me hooked up and I told her he's coming. She checked and his head had crowned. She yelled for help and told me not to push. I did not push but I had another contraction and he plopped out on the bed. He started crying and everything went crazy. Jack was born at 8:50. He weighed 2lbs 10 oz and 14.5 inches long. I was not even checked in so my husband had to go with Jack due to no arm bands. About 10 minutes later Emma's water broke. They checked her on the sonogram and she was breech so they started prepping me for a c-section. It was crazy there were about 8 people in the tiny triage cubicle. I was getting an IV, signing consent forms, and answering questions from the anesthiologist. My high risk doctor showed up and they started to take me down to the OR. In the hallway I told the nurse she is coming. The nurse checked and Emma was out to her hips. They rushed me back into triage and my MFM pulled Emma out. Emma was born at 9:15 and weighed 3 lbs 7 oz and 15.75 inches long. She is very bruised from her rough breech delivery and having more difficulty with her lungs. They are both in critical but stable condition. I didn't share my crazy delivery to scare anyone but to encourage you to listen to your body. I wonder if I would have gone in at 2 or even 6 could they have stopped the labor. I will try to post some pictures of my tiny miracles.

  • Congrats to you! I know it is hard but don't play the 'what if' game with yourself, it will eat you up...I know. I wish your sweet babies all the best, 29 weekers usually do quite well. Good luck!
