Toddlers: 24 Months+

Christmas?

I am just curious what everyone is getting their lo for Xmas? My lo will be a few months over 2 when Christmas rolls around and I am thinking of something like a leap pad or vetch learn and go but not really sure if this is to old for her. Anyone have experience? Thank you !

Re: Christmas?

  • We got DD a leap pad for her 2nd birthday.  I mainly wanted it as a way to keep her content in the stroller, I thought she'd just enjoy pushing the buttons, but it's really been great.  You can download TV shows.  She has Bubble Guppies, Umi Zoomi, Fresh Beats, and a few others, it's about $10 for 3 shows.  It keeps her very happy in the stroller and on long car rides.  She can play a few games, I haven't really pushed them or got many of the learning apps, so I'm not sure if those would be appropriate.  When we 1st got it she needed alot of help, but once we realized we could put the shows on, maybe about 3 months after her 2nd birthday, she was able to find them on her own right away.

  • We are avoiding electronic devices for as long as possible; I just don't think they are good for early development.  Our LO will be just barely 2 also and we decided to go with a play kitchen and some new puzzles.  When grandparents asked, we told them kitchen accessories, toddler puzzles and games, or part of a new bedding set we want to get for him.

  • We are also avoiding electronics for now.  I got DD1 a play kitchen and wooden appliances and food.  She also got a veterinarian pet care kit (I work in a vet hospital and it was too cute to pass up).

  • We have 1 leapster and 1 tag pen.  We are not encouraging more electronic toys.  We have a desktop, a laptop and kindle that they use occasionally too.

Our 7's big gift is a mountain bike, 5 yo's is the Cinderella carriage and doll and 2.5 yo's is the Little People Princess Castle complete with extra princesses.

  • My 2yo is getting lacing beads, craft supplies, a toy microphone, toy jewelry to play dress-up, a toy bunk bed for her (and her sister's) dolls, and clothes to grow into. I don't think kids need to learn to expect constant stimulation and "connectedness" at such a young age. JMO.

  • I just gave my DD my old iPhone and it's great! She loves her toddler apps. We went a little overboard with Christmas. We got her a scooter with helmet pads, 2 barbie dolls, an easel, a princess night light, an art kit, some books, speakers to play music from her iPhone, little people princesses, Rapunzel music box, a play vacuum and pjs. DS got a train table and set, chuck truck, some books, buzz light year doll, drums, toy guitar and pjs.

  • DS will most likely get a innotab or vtech or maybe even a kindle for christmas. I have no problem letting him get electronics that have educational games and apps. There are many charter schools that already provide an ipad to their students instead of books. Our son is already very proficient with our laptop. The key is that there is a time limit. For his 2y/o christmas, he got a kitchen with accessories, a baby doll, shopping cart, art easel, some trains.

  • DD will be 3 in Jan.  We're getting her: backpack and lunchbox(she's starting preschool), her own suitcase, pair of chopsticks for little kids, and a couple of books.
  • Lurking for the first time but I thought I would answer:

DD1 (2.5yrs): A bike with helmet, Percy from Thomas and Friends to add to her track, A doctor kit and her stocking will have a child's chapstick, hello kitty toothbrush and maybe a few other small things.

DD2 will be 2 months, so she is getting a few books.

Items on their lists for the grandparents are Little People, books, new sippy cups, puzzles, and craft supplies.

  • Just to clarify, I'm not really into electronics for kids, especially toddlers, but we got desperate and have used them for the stroller or when we go shopping.  The other day we went food shopping and DH pushed the cart with DD while she was playing on her leap pad and I pushed the stroller with DS.  When we were done I said something about how I wished she wasn't on the leap pad the whole thing and DH told me that she was coloring the whole time so what does it matter if she colored on the leap pad or in a coloring book.  I thought that was a good point, and now that she's in daycare and doesn't watch tv at all during the day, I don't even feel too bad about using it to let her watch shows.

  • Thank you  all so much for all the feedback! I have a few gifts that I have purchased throughout the year but I am thinking now of a leap pad and an easel for her 2 big gifts. We will also be switching her over to her toddler bed soon so possibly some bedding.  Thank you all again and happy holidays to everyone!
