Intro and a peeinthecup question

Hi! I found out last week that we are expecting LO2. Of course, we're thrilled : I'm about 5.5 weeks now and DD1 is 21 months.

We have moved since my last pregnancy and I just got the paperwork from my new OB office. Among other annoying things, apparently I'm going to have to bring my first morning urine into the office every time I have an appointment. Is this normal??? I take public transit into work...and then I'm at work...I can not handle the thought of carrying pee around all day! Why??

Of course, I'll ask at my first appt why they do this...but does anyone else have to do this? At my last OB I would just give a sample when I got there.

I'm mortified by this. Please tell me I'm not going to spill urine all over myself on my way to work one day.

Our office just collects on arrival.  I have gotten quite a bit of outdated literature from our office (like bring a VHS tape for a/s), so perhaps you can call them and clarify the need for you to collect at home?

ETA:  Congrats on the BFP and welcome to the board!

  • Welcome to the board!

I would not be transporting my urine around all day.

  • That doesn't make sense. A urine sample isn't good after 1 hour if it isn't refridgerated. You really should ask the reason for that.

  • I provide upon arrival. That seems weird, especially if you aren't the first appt of the day.

    oh and Hi and Congratulations!!

OMG. Yeah, no freaking way is this going to work! My first appt is at 2:30...I don't think I'll be storing it in the fridge at work. LOL. Hopefully as PP said its just outdated advice.

    Thanks for the welcome!

Same for me.  If you're over 5 weeks, I can't see why you'd need FMU.

Me either. They do point out that they will provide the cup for the sample, and if I think the cup is too small I can pee into a bigger cup and then transfer it to the cup they provide. How very thoughtful!

  • Nope. I pee in a cup for my glucose test before my first appt, at my glucose screening around 24ish weeks, and then they had me do it when I arrived at the hospital last time to have my son. Since I'm going for a RCS I'm not sure if they will require the last one again.

And they provide the cups when I get there.

  • I find it odd that they need FMU.  My office just collects on arrival.

  • Welcome! That seems weird that they want you to bring a sample. My OB just collects on arrival.
