Anyone else w/ a plan to switch to crib?

mobile: Anyone else w/ a plan to switch to crib?

I'm guilty of probably creating bad habits w/ A. She had been crib sleeping but after a rough stretch of about 2 weeks and going back to work we started co-sleeping.  It is just so easy!  This 4th trimester has also flow by and I need to probably figure this out soon.

What are you planning for your transistion into the crib? Anyone that has successfully transitioned, what worked?

  • We plan to start to transition tonight. She's napped in her crib quite a bit, though the times vary between a couple hours to 20 minutes. She usually gives us 1 long stretch in the beginning of the night, 8-1 or 2, so we're going to give it a shot and see how she does. How we will transition will depend on tonight.

  • I transitioned him a couple of weeks ago.  He had been napping in his swing and sleeping in his RnP at night.  I just sucked it up one night and put him in his crib.  At my ped's suggestion, we let him cry 10-15 min (he didn't even last that long though before falling asleep).  I have the crib mattress elevated with a small pillow.  He is swaddled in a Halo sleep sack every night.  He sleeps better in the crib!

I started naps in there too and he now gives me 2-3 hour naps.  It's fabulous.  He sleeps swaddled in a blanket for naps.

Transitioning to the crib has been wonderful for us and M sleeps longer and better now!

  • Sounds like we are not doomed! A also naps in the swing most often, we never had the RNP but I think we will go ahead and stick a pillow under the crib mattress.  Thank you ladies, if anyone else has more experience please chime in!

  • We have been transitioned for 2 weeks now. We had her in a bassinet for the first 2 months, but she naps in her swing, her crib, in our arms...I just kind of hoped she would go down easy for the night, and she has so far. She will usually sleep 11-4 or 5 in the crib, then I change her, feed her and put her back down. She sleeps until 7ish and then I bring her into bed with me to sleep and snuggle some more. If she doesn't go back down easy after the change and feed, I bring her into bed and we co-sleep. It has been working well.

  • I moved DS to his crib at 6 weeks. We really had no issues at all. He was sleeping in his cradle in our room which was flat so I think moving him to the crib was no problem. He had more problems during the day napping in the crib than at nighttime. At night, he is swaddles and is positioned between two wedges to keep him in one spot. I had one end slightly elevated to help with his cold last week, but took it away yesterday and he slept for 7 hours straight.

  • We transitioned 2 weeks ago. She had been in a bassinet next to us. We decided to just do it. She has been giving us stretches of 94 then again till almost 8 some days. We did not struggle with the flat surface and she always naps in our arms or the k'tan.

  • I wouldn't stress about it.  We transitioned DS at 2-3 months and DD1 at almost 5 months.  No biggie for either of them, their sleep patterns didn't change and I was surprised by how easy it was.  As far as what worked - with DS we just put him in the crib one night and he was out.  DD wasn't as happy about the crib, so we moved the PNP she'd been sleeping in in our room into her room and had her sleep in that for another few weeks, nap in crib, and before long she was sleeping nights in the crib.

DD2 is still in our room (RNP all night when she STTN, RNP then beside me if she wakes for a feeding).  We want to paint her room before we move her, which probably won't happen until after the holidays, so she'll be 4-5 months.  I'm not worried, and I'm enjoying our rooming in time while it lasts!

  • I have thankfully gotten over my concerns w/ STTN and am enjoying our night nursings and sharing a bed.  She is so sweet sleeping in my arms.  I'm glad to be rid of the guilt but do want her out of our bedroom before she is too old.  My thought was that if I started now, we could maybe have her STTN in her own room by 6 months.  I think that is my goal as of now and just want to be working toward that however I need to.

  • Our transition over the last week was surprisingly easy. The first night he slept 5 hours straight, then 6 hrs, and 7 hrs straight last night which is definitely a record. We spent Thanksgiving night at my parents' house and brought his RNP with us. Turns out DS won't sleep in it anymore so we ended up having him sleep on the floor of the guest room. I guess he likes to be flat.

  • We have had luck in transitioning the P from her PNP to a crib. No major issues and she seems to be sleeping the same as a regular day. Good luck!!

  • We did at 6 weeks cause he was getting too big for his bassinette and we got a sleep aquarium from a friend that needed to be in the crib.. so off to the crib he went, and has been there ever since..
