Re: GTKY - (Code: Ho! Ho!)

  • 1. Holiday you celebrate: Christmas but in the secular Santa-type way.

    2. Best gift you have ever gotten (either as a kid or adult): As a kid, I remember being really stoked to get a bunch of NKOTB items.  As an adult, I think tickets to see Jim Gaffigan's stand-up live was amazing.

    3. Favorite holiday candy: Candy cane of any kind, except for the mint chocolate flavor.  Those are nasty.

    4. Do you hope for snow during the holiday season? Or prefer a snow-free zone?:  I am really indifferent for myself, but I really would like snow for the kids.  It's usually up in the air here in Iowa.

    5. Any vacations for your family this holiday season?: We're staying home this year, but we sometimes go up to Minnesota.  Ya know, so we can be colder...

    6. Holiday cards - do you read the newsletters some people send out? Or think of them as a brag-fest and give it the side-eye as you skim through before tossing?: The only person who does this is my Aunt.  I read it, because she just gives the DL of what's going on with the entire family.

    7. You get to watch ONE holiday movie, which is it?: ELF!!!!

    8. Besides eating, what do you do more of during this holiday season, than you do all year?: Bake

    9. Something you are very excited about this holiday season?: Seeing Nora be able to actually open her gifts this year.

    10. Gingerbread cookies or frosted sugar cookies?: Sugar, duh.  I make some phenomenal sugar cookies, too.

    11. You are with the crazy side of your family, what's in your drinking cup....hot chocolate, or hidden booze?:  No hiding that sh!t.  They need to know they cause me to drink.

    12. There is a mysterious gift with your name on it. You open it. It is something you have ALWAYS wanted, but never gotten. Whether it cost too much, they were constantly sold out, it wasn't practical, etc. But this year you got it, it's all yours! What was in the box?: Can a Mini Cooper fit in a box?

    1. Holiday you celebrate: Christmas

    2. Best gift you have ever gotten (either as a kid or adult): I love the blue topaz my husband got me a few years back.

    3. Favorite holiday candy: Anything caramel

    4. Do you hope for snow during the holiday season? Or prefer a snow-free zone?:

I love a white Christmas. To me Christmas without snow is just not the same. I am from California initially so I love having a snowy Christmas (usually) in Idaho.

    5. Any vacations for your family this holiday season?: No vacations planned at all. Our next vacation will be a scientific meeting in May unless we can manage to go somewhere for a weekend sooner.

    6. Holiday cards - do you read the newsletters some people send out? Or think of them as a brag-fest and give it the side-eye as you skim through before tossing?: I usually do not see it as a brag fest. I love hearing what everyone has been doing for the past year as it is so hard to keep in touch with everyone year round.

    7. You get to watch ONE holiday movie, which is it?: Christmas Story!!

    8. Besides eating, what do you do more of during this holiday season, than you do all year?: Pretty much just shopping. I love buying gifts for people and I enjoy the decorations at the major shopping malls up north.

    9. Something you are very excited about this holiday season?: I am looking forward to the yearly Christmas parade in our town. They have a bunch of goofy home-made floats, then they serve chili and hot chocolate at the park just before they have a huge fireworks show. They do not do fireworks on the 4th of July as they save it all up for the Christmas parade. My parents and brother's family all come too. It is just a fun, wholesome family evening. I am also looking forward to DS being more aware of Christmas and presents this year.

    10. Gingerbread cookies or frosted sugar cookies?: Frosted sugar cookies.

    11. You are with the crazy side of your family, what's in your drinking cup....hot chocolate, or hidden booze?: Hidden booze for sure.

    12. There is a mysterious gift with your name on it. You open it. It is something you have ALWAYS wanted, but never gotten. Whether it cost too much, they were constantly sold out, it wasn't practical, etc. But this year you got it, it's all yours! What was in the box?: A huge gift card to Nordstrom, or keys to a bigger house in town, or (on the cheaper side) the Steve Madden handbag I have been eyeballing for a week. Actually, I would really love to buy the house in town that I used to rent. It is not for sale and I probably couldn't afford to buy it if it was but I really want to live in that house again and own it this time.
