Changing baby at night?

I have heard tond of conflicting advice on this and thought I would run it by you guys -

Do you change your baby at night when they pee?

I have heard yes, change them always because they will get diaper rash or pee through their diapers. I also have heard no, don't change them every time because it just wakes them up more.

Secondly, if you do change them, do you change them before or after feeding?

I am just clueless about this stuff.

I struggle with this too. I do change him every time we're up. Sometimes if I know he's messy/wet, I change him before a feeding. Sometimes I wait, because inevitably, he makes a mess while he's eating! I've noticed that if he's well fed, he's pretty drowsy following a feeding, so I can change him without a lot of fuss, and it's not too difficult to get him to fall asleep even after I've changed him. I hate to think of him sleeping uncomfortably in a dirty diaper

and I can't imagine he'd sleep as long as if he was nice and clean.

I change diaper quick 24 hrs a day to avoid rash issues. At night, i always chk diaper before feeding to change then. If she pees, i leave it...if she poops, i change her post feeding before putting to bed. Otherwise, she wakes within an hr anyways due to poop.

We're very prochange here but that's because DD has had a rash. We change her before every feed and check if she needs it afterwards. She often does. We also wake up once before her 4 am feed to change her but that'll stop once we're confident the rash is gone for good. She goes back to sleep pretty well both times.

I don't change every time. I check before feeding if it needs a change. Although sometimes he poops during a feed so I change halfway through so he gets nursed back to sleep in the end.

I always change lo first then feed him. Mainly because he hates being wet/ dirty at All.

I change for pee. I usually wait until after feedings cause he usually goes during the feeding. He cries but he calms pretty quickly.

I always change before each feeding. By the time she has eaten she has fallen asleep again, so I don't worry about her being woken up even more.

I used to change him before a feeding because it would wake him up enough to eat. But now I don't (if it's just wet) during the night. He just wakes up too much and is harder to put back down. I put lots of diaper cream on him in the evening and so far we havne't had any rashes!

My LO is 5weeks and he wakes up by himself in the middle of the night for feeding. After I feed him, I wait about 5-10minutes (because he sometimes does a big poop afterwards) and then change him whether it's pee or poop. Sometimes he sleeps right through (especially if it's just urine) or if he awakens, he will usually fall right back asleep with a bit of rocking.

DD was in the NICU and since being discharged, we have stayed on the NICU routine of chaning, nursing, tummy time, sleep every.. 3 hours. But if I hear a big blow out, I will change before that and then again at her feeding time.

I always change then feed. He goes right back to sleep after a feeding so I wouldn't disturb him unless there's a blowout

This. Could change as he gets older, but right now he falls asleep on the first side and we change him to wake him up to feed on the other side before laying him back down.

This. Plus DD sometimes will get so fussy she doesn't feed if she's messy or wet. Changing wakes her up enough to make sure she gets a full feeding.

When she wakes I change her then feed her. I like changing first because it makes her more comfortable and it wakes her up a little so she will eat better. She always either pees or poops so there's no reason not too. A couple times I have changed her and then she poops mid-feed so I have to change her again but oh well.

My LO hates to be wet or dirty. He can pee twice and fart and he wakes up and fusses to be changed, lol. We go through a lot of diapers here!

My advice? I changed my babies mid way through the night feeds, so they wake enough for the second breast. So, yes I changed them each time. Especially during the first few months. Then, once they have fed completely they are clean and dry and ready for bed again. The tiny NB diapers only hold so much, so you will probably need to change with each feeding. Once baby is older and only feeding a few times a night you might be able to skip a dipe change.
