When are telling work?

I'm planning to wait until after reviews to tell my employer, so sometime in January. I'll be something between 12 and 16 weeks, hopefully they'll have reviews wrapped up by then because I do want to tell them before it starts becoming apparent that I'm avoiding telling them.

When are you planning to tell?

Re: When are telling work?

  • I was just thinking about this today.  With both of my jobs, I work seasonally and basically contract to contract.

With one job, I am a high school coach and while we techicnally have things all year, some times are much busier than others.  That being said, this pregnancy shouldn't really interfer at all (as in, I won't need to worry about maternity leave since we're "off" during the summer).  Right now, our season lasts until late February and I'm assuming my athletic director will figure it out.  The other coach knows b/c I can't stunt or jump.

With my other job, I'm contracted June through August, so obviously I can't do that job this year.  My boss is a close family friend, so I'll just tell him when we "come out".  They'll have plenty of time to find a replacement.

  • I am waiting as long as I can. Probably around 10-12 weeks.
  • My boss and a co-worker I work closely with both know -- due to time off work during my IVF cycle, I looped them in a long time ago.  I will wait at least until 12 weeks to "come out" to the rest of my office.  I'd like to wait a few weeks longer but I think I'll be eager to let go of the secret by then.

  • I'm not looking forward to telling a few ppl at my work.  The human resource lady is mean and judgmental, and can't want to hear her snarky remarks.  Thinking about just telling my boss and letting my boss deal with human resource lady.

I also am a HS girls soccer coach, and I don't think I should have any problems coaching soccer this season.

  • I've told my boss and some close friends at work already, but I will probably wait until the new year to tell the whole office. We'll see... I'm not really hiding it from anyone, just not announcing it.

  • I already did because of all the doctors appointments early on. Blood draws and the initial and the second u/s. So they all know and were really excited for me. I work with mostly woman though.

  • I already told my job. People started questioning why I would feel sick out of no where and having to use the bathroom so often. I wanted to wait since I had only been at my new job for about 4 weeks when I found out but my boss was really cool about it. He has even asked me how I am feeling and how far along I am. So thankful for a place like that, that was so accepting of the situation.
  • I only returned to work August 20th after a 9 month maternity leave. So.... I'll wait until January. I'll be 13 weeks... Though I have already told my boss I'm actively trying. I'm requesting 5 to 6 months for next baby.

  • I told my principal already. We have to get approval from her for time off, so I figured it would make life easier to let her know. I'll probably tell my team at 12 weeks when we announce to friends. The week before Christmas

  • Last time I waited until I was 25 weeks to tell because I was up for a promotion and though I know it's not supposed to, I didn't want it to effect my chances.  This time I have a feeling it will be noticeable much sooner, so maybe around 16 weeks.  We'll see when it becomes obvious.

  • I'm a SAHM now but with DD I told my immediate boss right away bc of my history of loss. I knew I would he a nervous and emotional mess and that I would have more appts than normal bc I was treated as high risk. Plus, he was awesome and like family. I waited until after my NT Scan to tell my higher supervisors and employees.

I'm supposed to return from holidays on Friday, and I can't return to my old job. It was the longest I could hold off on telling them. I'll be 6w4d.

  • I already told my bosses and one close coworker who just had a baby herself.  I'm really close to my boss and she knew we were TTC.  I wanted her to know in case I wasn't acting myself.  DH told only his boss at work because he knew he would want off for appointments.  We are waiting til the end of 1st tri to tell everyone.  DH has a female cowrker he knows well that is struggling with IF.  He is planning to tell her alone in case she is upset so she's not surprised in front of the whole staff.

  • I told my boss early on, about 5 weeks. She knows about our previous losses and has been very supportive. I wanted her to know the date of my first u/s because my last pg I received horrible news at my u/s and ended up taking the rest if the day off and then two days the next week to take Cytotec. It would have been difficult to do that without her knowing.

I don't plan on telling coworkers until at least 14 weeks.

  • I had to tell my manager and weekend supervisor because I am a nurse and I was unable to get my annual TB shot plus I needed to be kept off of a case where a patient had shingles. I will probably reveal to the rest of work within the next month or so, maybe sooner depending on how things progress with my gall bladder -- otherwise they are all going to wonder why I don't just have surgery.

No, I live in Arizona. I do outside sales... I don't get paid on leave, but they're pretty cool in allowing us to take as long as we need. My boss is a mom and said she regrets only taking 6 weeks with her daughter and encourages us to take a while. Very lucky.

  • I'm not exactly sure yet. I don't plan to tell until I'm at least 12 weeks (end of January) but it will depend I guess. I'm a teacher, so since I'm due in the summer, it shouldn't affect things at school too much, but I will not be returning for the next school year, so I have to decide when to tell that too. I'll probably wait as long as I reasonably can, but likely not past 18 weeks or so. Sooner if I have complications, extreme sickness that's difficult to hide, or a lot of appointments during school hours.

I'm kinda in this boat.  I am in the interview process for a new job and will *hopefully* get it by the end of December.  That said, I don't want to turn around and say "oh, by the way, I'm pg!"  So I think the longer for me the better.  but with this bloat who knows how long I'll be able to hold out!
