DH and I just bought a chest freezer for the basement. I've been doing a lot of those freezer meals lately, and have been buying bread, bagels, etc. when they go on sale and freezing them, as well. I'm also planning on freezing breast milk and baby food once LO get here, but I'd like to keep as much food stuff stashed as possible to hopefully cut back on shopping trips each month. I was just curious what other mom's stock up on in their freezers to make life a little easier and to help cut back on shopping trips. Are there any veggies, fruits, etc. that you recommend buying in bulk and freezing? Anything else I might find handy to have around all the time? Thanks!
Re: XP What do you ladies freeze?
My husband is a fabulous cook and he often plans meals specifically with the goal of freezing the left-overs. He also works a lot of nights so I am home alone for dinner a few nights a week. I know as we get closer to our due date he has lots of meals planned for freezing. Some of his favorites: any soup (super easy to reheat), chicken/turkey pot pies (we make a whole bird for dinner one night and use the leftover meat to make the pot pies), casseroles and lasagna (bake one now and make extras to put the others in the freezer), and pasta sauces.
I have found that I never have time to make food specifically to freeze. The best way for our family is to double or even triple any recipe for a dinner that is freezable. It doesn't take that much more work when you're already making it for dinner.
We freeze a lot of things because we do a lot of couponing. Some items that we regularly get for free or cheap are bread products, butter, coffee creamer, cheese, lunch meat, hot dogs and frozen meals (Lean cuisines, frozen pizzas, etc...) I also will freeze meat when I find a good price on it.
We have recently started freezing meals and some of my favorite things to freeze are chicken in marinades, lasagna (we freeze individual cooked portions), enchiladas, twice baked potatoes, shredded chicken, pulled pork, stuffed shells, muffins/other baked goods, and soups.

My mom and grandma always did butter, bread and milk. With milk, you need to make sure and leave room in the gallon for it to expand but my mom would often buy 3 or 4 gallons at a time, half them into other containers and then freeze them.
Freezer meals are very nice to have. BFF makes and freezes breakfast burritos, lasagna or pasta bakes, pancakes, muffins, cookies, soups ans chilies. We are hoping to get a chest freezer soon to use for breast milk but the upside will be being able to freeze some meals as well.

With milk, how does it work with the expiration date? If I buy milk that expires in a week, freeze it, then defrost it in 6 days, how long does it last after the expiration date?
We coupon as well and actually have 2 freezers (one is the smallest you can buy - we got it right after we were married) that are full. We freeze just about any and everything - bread, cheese, uncooked meats, lunch meats, cereal, cookies, crackers, hamburger helper mixes, hummus, etc. I like to freeze our dry goods bc it makes the shelf-life longer.
The only thing I've found that isn't good frozen is cream cheese. It gets all grainy.
