35w appt accurate growth scans?

We went in for our BPP, NST and growth check today and Miles b, breech is weighing in at 5.12. Max is so far down that she said his weight at 5.7 is more likely closer to Miles' weight, since she probably didn't get a good head measurement bc she couldn't reach his head like she wanted to. She also said that with Max being that low I'm basically going any time. I'm hoping to get to 37w so that we can come home with 7pounders!

Did you find weight checks to be accurate at this stage of your pregnancy? I am really thrilled with them being over 5 and a half at this point, as my dream was getting to 5 pounds!

Re: 35w appt accurate growth scans?

  • I believe my last growth scan was around 35 weeks. Miles (good name choice btw!) was measuring 5.3 and Stella 5.8. They were born at 38w 3d and Miles was 7.1 and Stella 6.2.

I always hope for at least 6lb babies so I was more than happy when they were born at such great weights! M was bigger than my first son!

  • My last scan was at 38 weeks and Andrew measured 6lbs 8oz, and Will at 7lbs 1oz. They were born four days later at 6lbs 3oz and 6lbs 7oz, so the scan was off by about a half pound, which is normal. So exciting that your LOs are bulking up!!! Nice job!

  • My final growth scan was at 34w4d and Oliver (A) was 5.8 and Zoe (B) was 5.3. They were born exactly 2 weeks later with O weighing 6.8 and Z weighing 4.11 ...so Zoe's measurements were pretty off. Everyone including my OB was surprised by the 2 lb weight difference at their birth.

  • Funny! Mine were est. at 5lbs12oz and 5lbs7oz at my 35w appt too. Then at 37w they were both est at 5lbs11oz, which made me nervous for Baby A's sake! At birth 6 days later they were 6lbs7oz and 6lbs10oz so overall the 37w u/s estimate was a little under.

I haven't had my twins yet but at my 33wk u/s, the MFM told me the same thing b/c of the lack of ability to get good measurements of Baby B's head and the computer estimated her weight at less than the MFM believed she really was. She also said that as we get closer to d-day, the more the measurements are off and statistically, their office is off by no more than .5lbs. We'll find out soon!

Oh really? that's good to know! I thought it sounded reasonable, but she was a little batty so I wanted to make sure...  :-)

  • At my 35 week apptmt DD was estimated at 6 lbs 2 oz, and DS was estimated to be "nearly 6 lbs". Their growth had always been consistent and they always measured within a few oz of each other, so at 37 weeks 1 day I thought they had a good chance of being around 7 lbs. at birth DD baby A weighed 6 lbs 5 oz and dS weighed 4 lbs 14 oz. so that was pretty shocking... He was small but mighty, though, and didn't have any problems or need nicu time.
  • I am wondering the same thing. I had a growth scan at 35 weeks that showed the twins at 5.75 lbs each...up 1.5 lb from the scan two weeks prior. That seemed like a lot to me. I have one last ultrasound and my c-section this week, so I'll let you know how accurate the scan estimates turn out to be!

  • My last growth scan was 37w and they estimated the girls at 7lb 5oz and 5lb 15oz.  3 weeks later when they were born they were 6lb 13oz and 6lb 9 oz so way off esp if you account for the 1/2 lb they are supposed to grow each week.

  • My 36 week growth scan put them both around 5lbs...born 2 weeks later at 6lbs1oz and 6lbs11oz....I was told to expect a margin of error of 1lb up or down!
