Dysfunctional Turkey Day...

DH and I cooked a pretty big spread at my parent's house and we had about 12 people there. At the beginning of the meal my Aunt asked my Mom if she would say grace so my Mom did. My Uncle then interjected that they were "imposing their religious crap" on everyone. Then the politics started...my Dad and his brother then ended up running off my other Uncle with their politics talk immediately after dinner. My Aunt left shortly after and when she got home my Uncle berated her for ruining Thanksgiving by asking if my Mom would say grace. In the meantime, I had injured my ribs really bad the day before and had to choose between hydrocodone and wine. I drank 4 glasses of wine then fell asleep in the recliner for 1.5 hours. My SIL and nephew were really sick and coughing up a lung all night. Of course when I turned my head to look where DS was my SIL was holding him so I am expecting DS to be sicker than hell within the next 3 days. Yesterday morning my Mom and Dad were still fighting about her saying grace at dinner.

It isn't as crazy as Pear's post but it was still pretty wacky.

    Sorry, we had a relatively normal Thanksgiving this year. There is a first for everything, right?

    Ours was pretty sane, unless you count the fact that we had to have dinner at my stepbrother's home because he's on house arrest for his third DUI.

    Oh my! I am glad that aside from the reason you had to have dinner where you did I am glad you had a good Thanksgiving! I am also glad to hear that your's was fairly normal too Penny! I think everyone's family is at least a little nuts.
