Birth announcements/Xmas cards...WWYD

Our DD was born on Halloween and we are trying to figure out what to do about birth announcements or Christmas cards.  WWYD?  Should we send out birth announcements now or wait until we finalize, probably early next year sometime.  Should we still send out Xmas cards with her pictures?  Should we do a birth announcement/Xmas card combo?  I'm just not sure what the rules are for this one.

Thanks much and Happy Friday!

Re: Birth announcements/Xmas cards...WWYD

  • There are no rules. Do what feels right. If TPR is already complete, I'd say go for it, however you want to do it. No one is going to side-eye you for a Christmas card and a separate birth announcement. Most people love that stuff.

We were placed with DD in March. We didn't finalize until October. We sent out announcements in August when it was clear that TPR for her BF was going to proceed without a hitch.

    Have fun!

  • If TPR is signed I would do Christmas cards as the announcement.  If all goes well, I think I am going to do New Years's Cards for my announcement.  GL.

  • I would do a combo birth announcement and christmas card- stamps are getting expensive :-)

we adopted DS from Korea. Last christmas, we had been matched with him and were waiting to travel to bring him home, We did a christmas card with 2 pics on it- one of dh and I, and then another pic of DS that we had gotten from our agency... and kind of used that as our "we're adopting!" announcement :-) we also put a letter in with it explaining everything. people loved it!

  • Congratulations!  Our DD was born on Halloween, too!!!!  We were contemplating the same thing, but I think we will do a Christmas card and birth announcement combo.  The PP was right, stamps are getting expensive.  Also, I like the idea of having a birth picture to announce and then a family picture to say Merry Christmas from our new family.

Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • We do birth announcements after rights are relinquished. It is what I would do if I gave birth. Our DD was born 1017.

Separately I will send out our family Christmas cards.

I will never combine my children's birthdays with holidays.
