I have asthma, a heart condition, and a thyroid disorder, I take meds for all three. I obviously, intend to bring all my meds to the hospital to take on my normal schedule. Since the hospital has my med dosage/usage on file, will they insist on supplying them and giving them to me?. I only ask because I know, for sure, that if they distribute them tome, I will get charged. I dont want to ask the hospital, because I feel like they are going to tell me they have to give them. Wondering if anyone has experience with this?

Re: bringing own meds to hospital.
I honestly don't know about this, but the thought I had is they will probably want to dispense it to you so that they know exactly what you're taking and when. They keep track of all that and they probably need to know for sure what's going on as they will likely be dispensing other medications to you during your stay.
Maybe someone will have firsthand experience though. I have no idea, but that was just my thought while reading your post.

my read shelf:
I took my asthma meds with me last time when I had DS and they were perfectly fine with it. I think they were relieved not to have to go fill another prescription for me. All they do there is fill the prescription at the hospital pharmacy and then give them to you... They just want to know exactly what you are taking and when, so make sure you let them know. They write it on your chart so that they don't accidently give you something that will interact.
This is what we do at my hospital
I'm on hospital bed rest and dealing with this now. I just had to declare the meds and they had the pharmacy verify them. Then they gave them back to me to take on my own schedule. There are a couple things I did not mention to them just because I didn't want to fight (emergen-c and probiotics). I just take them when no one is watching.
This is what I'm hoping - good question though I'll have to try and remember to ask it when I do the hospital tour!
They charge a "dispensing fee" for sending any meds to you - even your own. You will be charged this fee whether you take your own meds or not because you may get IV fluids, prenatals, pain relievers, tucks pads, etc. Aside from inhalers, which we are happy to let you keep at bedside, when you bring your own meds to our hospital the nurses take them from you (unless a trusted family member can take them home for you - which we highly prefer!), and a pharmacist checks them in for storage. If we do not have your particular medication we can dispense your own dose by dose. If it's a medication on formulary, you are supposed to take what we supply for liability reasons (mislabeled pill bottles, they get lost, etc), and because it's a pain the butt for us to keep track of and dispense a bunch of people's own meds because they think they will save money. The only thing you may save money on it bringing your own inhaler - every time we dispense one inhaler you are charged a "bulk charge," because one inhaler provides multiple doses.
